I wonder if the Jets are putting out disinformation. It was reported after the Hill trade the FO asked what could we have done differently and the answer was silence. A week ago Hughes said the Jets loved Thibs and he would be the pick at 4 if there then Hughes breaks the JJ story. Sauce was not in play a week ago at 4 and is now a consideration? Should we question if they are deliberately mudding the waters with disinformation?
As someone who is hanging on every single word uttered by someone reputable, I pray the Ickey/JJ stuff is all misinformation but I also can’t wait for it to end.
The Sauce part feels like disinformation, hoping to get a team (Giants?) to trade up, especially with all of the Stingley to Houston talk.
I would love to get Thibs, another pass rusher, Cine, a WR, a DT, a LB, a RB, another TE, backup OT and guard and so on but the reality is we are not going to get what we want and this will not be as impact full a draft as last year. At best we are likely to get 1 to 2 starters in this draft as there are only 4 positions with a decent chance of upgrading the starter edge, dt and possibly lb and FS. This draft will be about improving our depth so when years like last year happen we won't be playing people that we signed off the street.
I think we absolutely need to find day one starters at Edge, wide receiver and safety. I’m confident we can find in Edge in the first round even if I don’t want it to be Johnson and there will be plenty of starting safeties on the board at the top of the second round. Where I’m nervous is wide receiver. I feel like after Williams, London and Wilson there is a drop off. I think Olave and Burks can be good pros but not enough to trade up for either one of them.
Edge yes, but any wr we draft will likely be used as our 4th option this year and any FS drafted likely will sit behind Joyner for a year and learn. Joyner was a really good FS and the CS said they love him. I agree and I am not excited by JJ.
I like Joyner a lot as well but I don’t know if he isn’t every down guy. I feel like with the way players rotate in and out of this defense you can never have enough talent on that side of the ball. Also he’s on a one-year deal so spending a second round pick on a heavy rotational guy that can turn into your lead guy in a year is not a bad investment. I kind of disagree on wide receiver. I think if you draft Wilson or London they fit right into the game plan day one and they are good enough to produce immediately.
Douglas doesnt really play that game. Last year everybody knew they were taking Wilson, everybody knew they were high on Vera Tucker as well
This is interesting. They are working on an extension with Fant which means he is NOT getting cut or becoming a swing tackle. So if we draft Ickey, he's replacing Becton. Or we used the fourth pick on a swing tackle.
Talked about a contract extension and working on a contract extension are 2 entirely different things. I imagine the reason those talks haven't progressed is because they might draft Ekwonu at 4. 30 more hours...tomorrow night can't come soon enough.
My dream scenario involves #10 and Deebo. Green Bay Trades - 22, 28, 59 Green Bay Receives - Deebo and pick 69 SF Trades - Deebo, 61 SF Receives - Pick 10, 111 Jets Trades - 10, 69, 111 Jets Receives - 22, 28, 59, 61
That said BPA at premium positions which is where JD has always been. The only difference here is including cb as a premium position.
I'd be fine with Ickey here but do we really want the 3rd or 4th best edge rusher at 10 instead of the 1st or 2nd best receiver?
I think WR is a premium position in every offense. It's almost impossible to win if you can't pass well. Our offense just wants good route runners who are good after the catch.
