Well, here is how I see it (without being pro or con): I think a lot of people view a job in the NFL as a privilege. You get paid a boatload of money to play a game. So they aren't denying him the right to earn a living--he can go and get a job just like you and me--but he is being denied the privilege to earn the wildly inflated living of a pro football player because of his actions.

More on target, his actions also affect the valuation of the sport itself. This is something almost everyone loses sight of. So called bad behavior gets overlooked if it brings in trophies, wins, and money. But what about when it doesn't? Does Ray Rice potentially lower viewership? Are his benefits outweighed by his costs? This isn't just a single franchise issue, this is something the entire league must ask. In years past it was easy to ignore bad behavior since the NFL was growing by leaps and bounds. That growth, while still strong, is showing signs of waning. What happens if employing people like Rice causes a backlash? People say it can't happen but that's not true. Baseball was ALWAYS America's sport.... and then it wasn't one day. If the people running the NFL have half a brain they have to know that what brought them to the top could also bring them down.

    Anyway, that's my $.02

True. I think they should take all rookies aside after the draft and have someone tell them, "We won't let you ruin this brand. This brand is worth more than you are and you can be replaced. This is a meat market." Honestly, that is what the NFL is ALL about. It's about much stinking money as they can get their hands on.

I think it's obvious that ESPN didn't want to have to suspend Steven A Dick a 2nd time for saying there are some times a kid just deserves to be beaten to a bloody pulp by his father with a weapon.

ray rice played through a hip injury in 2013. a year off could be good for him if he's kept in shape and the hip isn't permanently damaged.

he'd make the offense better and take a load off ivory if he's somewhere between injured hip 2013 rice and healthy 2012 rice. the guy is still only 28.

I don't pretend to know what his current physical condition or ability is but I find your absolute and arrogant statements pretending you do know as laughable as someone confidently claiming that Derek Carr is no better than Geno Smith.

To expect Rice to come off his couch after over a year and be up to "football" speed is probably like looking for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

No harm in giving him a workout. I think the year off is over stated if he's been keeping in shape.

I see your point and I don't see any harm unless it takes a roster spot from someone else who knows this scheme and could contribute , especially on ST which has been atrocious .
We both know being in "shape" & being in "football shape" are two different animals . The guy hasn't had contact for well over a year.

I mean would it hurt anyone's feelings if Ray Rice replaced Zack Stacy? Dude is ass.

Stacey is up to speed in this system and in playing shape, Rice would be a setback imo

I don't know what we'd do without his 2.8 YPC.

So replacing him with a guy who hasn't played in two years based only what he did over three years ago is an upgrade? Why waste time with that?

Like I said, I don't know where Rice is at. It's probably a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow thing like evojoe said.

If he's healthy and in shape he's probably at least as good as Stacy is right now, with the chance of getting closer to where he once was. In '13 he was playing injured. He's 28 and the last time he played healthy he was a much better RB than anyone not named Ivory on our team. He was better than any RB on our team out of the back field.

The chances of this happening are probably less than the chances of a 250 pound 12 pointer walking in front of my tree stand tomorrow morning.

I'd rather have Monte Ball than Ray Rice, and I'd rather not have Monte Ball.

Pros: Crisp left hook displaying knockout power.

Cons: lacks ability to finish, often turns fights into dragged out affairs.

Thoughts? Do you mean after putting all of that emotional "he's a woman beater crap" aside?

    Box office poison.

Todd Bowles and company has done great at giving the media a bunch of nothing.. outside of the acts of Geno and Sheldon. But even then the media hasn't been able to make any stories out of geno and sheldon since. I havent heard a peep from Incognito in the media.. hell even greg hardy until he made himself a new spotlight on sunday. If you keep these players away from the media, and keep the media away from the players... you'll be fine. Thats how i see it.

Lost in all of this is that Ray Rice isn't good. And that was 2 years ago. We do need a healthy running back to take a load off Ivory. Oh hey, Stevan Ridley is eligible to come off the PUP and Bowles says he'll be activated soon. What a coincidence.

I think the guy deserves another chance. He isn't even close to being as bad an individual as Greg Hardy is.

Yes, at this point in their lives Ridley would be the better player than Rice anyway.

That more than anything is probably why Rice doesn't have a job. Average RBs are a dime a dozen these days so if you have one guy who's an average RB that's been out of the league for beating his wife vs. one that hasn't.. you take the one who hasn't

2.9 YPC in his last season and 2 years on the shelf. Ridley might have been the better player halfway through his rehab.
