ESPN Poll on if the Jets need to improve the QB position bottom right. It probably will take the CS, ChadandClemens and Italian Seafood a few hours to change the results from yes to no? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/index Related article on the JETS. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=yasinskas_pat&id=3286102
Tannenbaum has put some QB for the Jets in a position to do well. Currently, there is no QB who has been anointed #1. The only way things get interesting is if Chad is traded between now and the end of the second day of the draft, and we do walk out of the draft with another QB.
You can't trade players during the draft, it's impossible. Contracts need to be negotiated and physicals must be taken. If they trade him it has to be between now and about a week before the draft begins. I don't see it happening.
You do realize we will have another weak sched and could get a 9-7 or 10-6 won and done first round playoff exit again this year. In the event that this happens we will have to suffer through Chad and his fludder balls for two more years. You know the routine. Get to the playoffs on a weak schedule in 2008 get a real schedule in 2009 and Chad gets exposed yet again, And were back to who should be the Qb for the 2010 draft. The only solution is to let Clemens play and see if he is boom or bust and deal with the one piece that has been killing us for the last 40 years which is Qb in next years draft or via Free agency.
Now just because somebody gets paid to write down their idiocy doesn't make them any different from us bloggers. You know, being blind in one eye doesn't excuse you from ignoring the awful OL busy killing your skill players, and bellowing about how suicidal the QB's play is today. I think it's going to be very interesting when these folks look up next year and we have great QB play behind an excellently vicious OL and wonder where the hell these guys came from.
Hopefully Mangini and Tannenbaum learned their lesson last year and will get a QB to build the team around or if they really believe Clemens is the guy give him the reps he needs in Mini Camp and training camp to be successfully out of the shoot.
Did everyone forget that Chad made it to the playoffs in '06-07? Granted, he isn't a gunslinger, but he is a field general. With that backfield, and the improved O-line, we should be able to control the clock and put up decent numbers in the "W" column. Drafting a QB early on is definitely not in the best interest of the J-E-T-S. Coles, IMO, is probably going to be a cancer this season because he cant re-negotiate a contract. That only leaves Cotch as true threat. That being said, why would we spend moneyon a QB at all in this draft? If we cant get out of the sixth spot, draft gholston in the first. Then, the best WR available in the 2nd, and a TE in the 4th. We have then shored virtually everything up, and maybe next year we draft a QB.....
The question is what has Chad done every time he has played a superbowl Caliber team in the Playoffs since he entered the league? The answer is lose. At some point he will have to throw in the playoffs and everyone will know a pass play is coming. He has never nor will he ever be able to throw when he has to against a Sb caliber team. No matter how good our line is it is wishful thinking that we can run in every game and win come playoff time. Playoff teams can neutralize anybody's strength and make you beat them with your weakness. Please reference Tom Brady in the S/B and the S/D Chargers the last few years.
Thanks for the correction, Whiteshoe. Perhaps I don't really appreciate the differences...Still, I see this getting back to the blame-the-QB diatribes. When the NYJ gets to the playoffs in '06-'07, according to FOURTHANDLONG, I see that the rest of the team has stood back and let the QB take 'em on single-handed like the Lone Ranger that he surely is... If the only thing we do is throw the ball, because we don't run the ball down their throats with aplumb, then there is not a helluva lot the QB will be able to do well. The DBs will sit on all routes, while the DL will shoot through all those OL holes and blast the QB before he has a chance to make the right choice. The home team's skill players "don't show up" in such big games because the DL and OL of the opposing team erases all effectiveness of the home team's DL and OL. Don't get the cart before the horse. If the horse won't run, your skill players aren't riding anywhere. This is why the pundits all babble about "defense wins championships" -- what they're suspicious about but don't articulate very well, is the simple violent truth that "if you don't win in the trenches, you lose the game."
I wasn't even aware there was an UNRESTRICTED FA Quarterback hitting the market in the offseason who could lead the Jets to a Super Bowl.
I guess you guys are just going to have to jerk off to your Madden games for another couple of years then and throw bombs all the time on there. Let the real football coaches decide who plays QB for the real football team, which will be determined in camp when the better guy plays. Whoever the better guy is will and has to play. Period.
There isn't but the absolute neglect the Jets have shown toward this position over the years is why we are in this position. We will have to develop one and maybe it's time to start drafting them early and often until we have one with another one on the squad being developed.
I guess you didn't see that Brady, Both Mannings and Big Ben made plays during their teams superbowl runs. At some point the man behind center will have to win a game. It is fact not fiction. Unless you have the baltimore Ravens Defense of 2000 and that we don't have!
The Jets will do something about a third QB at some point. They only have 2 signed and they won't be brining Tuisoapbox back.
