I don't care what the designation is, he is a proper receiver and someone who has to be accounted for when on the field. He's a good returner and should see the field a good proportion of time on offensive snaps. I don't think he's a full time slot guy but he can be lined up all over and allow Moore to line up outside too. He's a two in one player really and should be valued as such. If he goes we need both a returner and a reliable 4th receiver and there's no guarantee that the guys you get to replace him are as good.
Whatever value he has on paper is increased by the fact of his familiarity with the Jets and especially Zach, with those two having built strong rapport. If the Jets let him walk they're the SOJ fools they've always been.
If getting a # 1 WR is a goal for this offseason that gives us a top three of: New # 1 WR Corey Davis Elijah Moore At best Berrios would be our fourth WR and maybe not even that. I said $4 Mil and if he wants to walk for more money it is not the end of the world. I hope he stays but we have many bigger holes to fill than WR 4
Berrios is worth $1 more than the next highest offer. Everything he does he does extremely well. He has a high value to any team. Sure handed, ability to get open and so on. Yes, he lacks height and blazing speed. So what! He is worth a dozed Mims at this point.
Cole got 5 million with a 5.5 cap hit after incentives. However, Berrios' real value is he's the only receiver that Zach has any chemistry with, both on and off the field. You want to help Zach you find a way to keep him.
100%. The dude makes plays happen on offense and special teams and can run gadget stuff for us. I’m sure that Moore can run the gadgety-RPO stuff that the Jets run on the goal line with Berrios but I’d rather not lose the returner.
I think we need to look at his value a little bit broader perspective than the simplistic “at best he is a WR 4” usual dialogue. He is versatile as hell, he provides multiple roles, punter, kick returner, WR, and he has to be accounted for when in the back field. He has also been Wilson number one outlet and security blanket, not to mention durable as hell. So the notion than he can be easily replaced is utter hog wash. Stop trying to fix what’s actually working well for a change. Pay him the 6-7M and keep the continuity going.
You think we would just go through the season with just 4 WR's? How many got a game this season out of interest, 8 or 9? PS you can always judge a post by the people who like it
A big part of our losing culture is not rewarding players who have performed, the few times we have actually had a plus player on our roster. That needs to change. Douglas has been very prudent so far, maybe overly so, but to the extent we splurge it needs to be in house. We lost Anderson to a reasonable deal, he was just the last one. Just get a deal done with BB, I cant imagine anybody else will pay him unreasonable dollars.
Anderson >>>> Berrios. His worst year was better than Berrios best. He also got 10M APY when he left the Jets, and went on to put up 95 Rec for over 1,000 yds as a legit deep threat. Berrios isn’t going to see anything near that money or production. Not a great comparison imo, as just very different type of players.
don’t buy into this at all, especially since it’s been proven when we do this we usually see a drastic dip in play. Not saying it’s not something we shouldn’t do, but it needs to be done with the right type of player and person. Joe just paid JFM only been a short time, but his play hasn’t lived up so far. We did it Revis at the end and Mo wilk how that go?
Not that the players are the same, but I had 0 interest in signing Anderson. I think not signing Anderson and blaming it on “misreading the market” was a good move.
Funny, not resigning players who’ve outperformed their contract is part of the Patriots WINNING couture. We disagree about Anderson’s value and the reasonableness of his deal.
