He could have Bulger throwing to him THIS year too, and we'll have to watch it. Bulger's not bad. I shouldn't knock him. Thought I read today that the Jets had NO interest, Ah, you can't believe what you read until something happens. Too many outlets looking for stories to write.
http://www.nfl.com/players/torryholt/profile?id=HOL771651 His 2008 stats are not even that bad for playing on a horrible team with no offense. He is worth picking up by whoever gets him. Prolly a change of scenary will make him play better too.
I'd take him on a cheap 1 year, maybe 2 year deal. I'd still say go with Hakeem Nicks in the first though even if we get Holt because theres no QB worth drafting (Sanchez has bust written all over him) so we may as well get more weapons for Ratliff and hope hes the answer.
Holt's dollar value may be somewhat diminished right now because the draft is fairly heavy with talent. The timing isn't going to help him get big bucks, IMO, so maybe he would come at a reasonable price. Picking this guy up right now would be a great stop-gap for us. We could still pick up another rookie in the draft, but wait until good value comes our way or someone really good drops to us. Then, either trade our first to someone for next year's 1st or go for Sanchez if he falls to us. There are other needs of course, but doing this deal would give Tannenbaum lots of options on draft day... tons of options.
My thinking is that if we don't take a WR this year (if we get Holt), we're just going to need to pick one up next year when Holt is 34. May as well take a good prospect like a Hakeem Nicks and have him learn behind one of the greats in Torry Holt.
That seems a bit much for a guy who will be 33 when the season starts coming off the worst season of his career. I mean, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see him get that much, but Im not sure I would pay that.
Put it this way, if the Jets sign Holt, I will have complete faith in the coaching staff from now on. We need a WR, he is available and won't cost compensation, it makes sense. He has atleast 2 years left in him. You can't use anything the Bengals do as an example for the rest of the league's thinking.
I'll be happy if and when the CS realizes that we do actually have to have a passing game in order to have a running game..
Exactly. Plus, it would be nice for whoever is QB to have options to throw to. If not, it will make the transition even harder for the new guy, whoever he may be.
Admittedly, I don't know much about the specifics about NFL contracts, but Coles is a few years younger and coming off a better season plus iirc his contract his frontloaded making it easier to release him earlier into the contract. How many years would Holt command? Would anyone give him more than 2?
Holt gets 5-6 mil because of the fact that he's Tory Holt, not because of the 08 season. And you are going to make last year the case when he was on a terrible team with no QB and no time to get the ball to the WRs. wow
