Sorry. "Better than Todd Bowles" will never be enough to satisfy me.

No, he isn't. The only chance the Jets had to win was to win the toss, take the ball, and hopefully do what NE did (march down the field and score). Getting an early lead would give the offense some confidence and the D some added fire.
Deferring was moronic. With no pass rush and sorry CBs, we weren't going to stop Brady and NE. Gase's decision gave NE the momentum, put the Jets in a hole, and tired the D on the first drive.

Wow the Monte Carlo fallacy, you don't see that being thrown around like the Fibonacci system which is even more dangerous in gambling.

Each football game is not a 100% independent event like flipping a coin, or why would coaches bother studying film of previous games? There is some independence but not completely. Had the Jets won that game against the Bills, they would have done so my scoring more points in the 2nd half or giving up fewer points in the 2nd half. This means they under Gase would have found a way to hold on to victory. Ironically they were tested again in the Cowboys game when they almost didn't hold on to their lead.

I do believe when a team wins games they start learning how to win. The Patriots are a classic example because they have won so many games together. Learning to win a game is part of the growth of a team in any sport. So the point I am making is the NFL is not a 100% stochastic system nor is it a 100% deterministic system either. So parts of your argument have merit but not completely.

In all honesty, the Pats having the extra time to rest and prepare for this game didn't help the Jet's cause either. This would be an example of something that helped cause a deterministic event. Had the Cowboys been playing with both offensive tackles and their two wideouts, would this have affected the outcome of the Cowboy game? Again a possible deterministic event because of the Cowboy injuries. Last but not least, would Darnold and Gase been better prepared for the Patriots had Darnold not contacted mono?

If you are totally right and each game is an independent event, then there would be no favorites in any game?

I don't think it would have mattered, but the argument for not deferring is solid tbh...you're at home, need to get some momentum and Brady went ding ding ding down the field for three straight TD's the first time we played them. If they were on the road I'd say defer but at home you needed to get the crowd buzzing early.

When you apply for work do you never tell people "you are still learning the job"???? Gase conned the Con Job owners lol. This is no excuse. Someone needs something built and AG is contractor for Office Building ..The plans are missing an elevator...are you keeping or firing him?

If Gase is still learning and if that's really true the Employer should realize that and examine AGs CV>>>HC experience over 4 or 5 Seasons with losers and only one 10-6. Plus , and more importantly, poor attitude with owners and players

    Fire him now

NY12 and others -----> I never wanted Gase hired thats well documented but now that Joe Douglas is GM they will ( IMO ) never fire him now----and I am afraid even if the Jets shit the bed the entire season that they will still give Gase a chance to at least start next year. As I have posted countless times I would love Gase to prove me wrong but as we can see that aint happening so now WE NEED all our players on O and D to come back and stay healthy so this ass clown has zero built in excuses and maybe by some act of god they shit can him.

    Good points..but scary too.

Gase and Douglas may be scheming to continue to Con ownership since J and J are just 2 uber wealthy easy clueless Marks lmao

They gave Douglas a longer contract than Gase but the Truth will eventually surface what a Loser AG (like Toilet Bowles) is. In that case Douglas has to cut ties with the Off Genius (I hope)

Like I've posted before, the NYJs are an easy Francise to just pick up a hefty Pay check. Perfect place for the Con Artist players (eg Tru Johnson, Len Williams Osemele) ; con artist Coaches (Bowles, AG) ; and dopey management (Mac) to put one over on ya

    Sad Sad Sad

assuming these numbers are close to correct that's 2.3B in appreciation spread over 20 years; 1 mil per year.

Nice! sign me up! i dont't care what the W-L record is. Make yourself comfortable Adam. LOL

one big problem with the newbie GM's is that they do not have an established posse of players and coaches that follow them when they are hired. Parcells had "his" guys and that creates the rapid turnaround - even with highly suspect drafts.

these young GM's can't afford to have suspect drafts cause they aren't bringing good NFL caliber players with them.

i haven't gone and looked but i'm wondering how many times similar comments were made with idzik, maccagnan, etc ect....not sure a GM can fix the shithole franchise with the existing ownership but i'm along for the ride albeit in an emotionally detached capacity.

Yep....I agree, and I am done doing just that....and buying any more jerseys, etc.., until they fix this cluster fuck.

I L-O-V-E the Jets. I don't know why exactly, but I do. Still, there comes a time that you have to let common sense steer you back to reality and stop feeding the addiction. SO I am not done being a Jet fan, but I am done supporting them until football and winning mean as much as the bottom line. If that never happens, oh well.....

How bad is it when we are reduced to arguing about a coin toss? Giving the ball the NE first had nothing to do with the loss.
We scored zero points the whole game. But we would have magically scored some on the first drive? Our QB had 86 passing yards and 5 turnovers.

There were actual bad coaching decisions to complain about. Who cares about deferring the opening kick?

I am not arguing that there would be no favorites in any game. Studying past results is completely irrelevant of what I was arguing in that a result (or changing a result) sometime in the past has no bearing on a game in the future.

Point spreads that are printed in the papers are easy. I can do that and have done that with Yisman who used to post here in the past. I can 95% within a half a point tell you what the vegas lines are going to be before they come out. That is because opening lines are almost always modeled after some kind of value over average system.

I am a little fuzzy on what you are arguing though. Are you saying that IF the Jets scored more points in previous games that their baseline offensive production would increase and hence increase the chances of winning future games? I actually agree with that to a point. That is if the offense/defense production gain is significant, in theory and if you have a time-machine to travel back into the past, it could work. However that is not practical in the real world and "holding on" to win a game by one point really has no effect on future games.

The decision on whether to retain or fire Gase may be completely out of Douglas' hands. It probably isn't, but even if that's the case, we have to hope that Douglas will put the team, the fanbase, and his on job evaluation over and above his friendship with Gase. If things don't get appreciably better, I can't see the NY media letting it slide. Also, if things don't get better, why should they risk wasting another year? On Monday night, we clearly saw Gase stand there and do nothing. He didn't continue to coach his team, he didn't get upset and try to fire his players up, he didn't do anything to help Sam (just as he didn't make any adjustments or do anything to help Falk succeed). A team with better talent can play better for any HC. The only reason to retain Gase would be if the team comes together, forges a strong identity, and Darnold improves significantly proving that he is the Jets FQB. If those things don't happen, there is no reason to expect things to get significantly better next season. Every team faces some level of adversity every season. Every player has bad games. If the HC can't motivate, inspire, or help individual players and/or the team during such times, what good is he?

I totally disagree. Football is a game of momentum and confidence. Confidence can wax and wane. When a team gets momentum, things seem to turn in their favor and they can get on a roll. If the Jets had taken the opening kick and marched down the field, even if they didn't score a TD, it would have given them confidence that they could move the ball against the Pats vaunted defense. Give Darnold and the offense that confidence and momentum, and maybe he never turns the ball over once, much less 5 times. Maybe the Jets still don't win, but the Jets may have been a lot more competitive and the game a lot closer.

Before this discussion starts sounding like "Back To The Future" and mentioning terms like one in a googleplex, I will concede your point. Besides, it is difficult to quantify how winning a football game makes a team better since the lessons learned are not always the same for every situation.
