I haven't watched Smith a lot, but he looked pretty decent v Northwestern and held up in the Pit drills in yesterday's Senior Bowl practice.

The OT I think everyone is sleeping on is Missouri's Mitch Morse. Has experience as a starter at both LT and RT. Looks like he will be a nice depth pickup for someone late in the draft.

Penn State's Donovan Smith, on the other hand, has been a pleasant surprise. Smith has a reputation of being lazy but that hasn't been the case thus far this week. The 6-foot-6, 341 pounder, has good initial quickness, a fluid kick-step and strong hands to stone pass-rushers. He's also consistently turned defenders to create space in the running game. Better yet, Smith has performed well while operating almost exclusively at left tackle. Smith is one of three underclassmen (along with Penn State DE Deion Barnes and Auburn WR Sammie Coates) granted special eligibility to compete in the Senior Bowl after graduating early.

Outstanding post. The only issue I have is bringing back Kyle Wilson. The guy is horrible and I'm tired of him not getting his head around to track the ball. We need to move on from him. Draft another CB and sign a free agent CB. Then let Milliner and McDougle fight it out for nickel and dime work.

Overall, I like your plan. I have a few differences of opinion, however.

As far as re-signing our own FAs, I would NOT re-sign Wilson under any circumstances. There are a number of vet FA slot CBs available as well as quite a few in the draft. I'd only re-sign Harris if he's willing to do a cheaper deal, and Buffalo (Rex) may want him, so he may want more than he's worth, and he's already been way overpaid imo. There are FA and draft prospects that could replace him.

I would re-sign Jarrett and not Landry. Landry is older, slower and only decent. Jarrett could still have some upside, and is younger. The Jets need a FS. As far as I'm concerned, they don't have a one on the roster. They should definitely draft one, but I'd look to sign on in FA as well.

I like the idea of trading Coples a lot on one hand although he is worth more than a 4th round pick, but OTOH not if it means keeping Pace and Babin. Cutting those two will save a lot of cap space. Coples is younger than either and better than either.

I like your FA signings. Add a FS to the group and it would be a good FA crop.

I like the positions you address with the draft, but think that Darryl Williams will be a 2nd round pick. There are better OLB prospects than Harold as well. Mayle hasn't looked good at the Sr. Bowl practices and I wasn't high on him anyway, and I think Mannion would be a wasted pick. Other than that, a good job, with some good thought/logic behind your moves.

Seems like I'm all alone on this K. Wilson re-sign. I wish as much as everyone that we drafted someone else in 2010. But IMO, he is a solid slot CB - we know what we are getting with him. We HAVE to re-sign David Harris (short-term yes) - we have no other solid options in FA or the draft.
I'm with you on the FS missing from our roster.
I have to disagree with everyone about getting something better than 4th rounder for Coples -- its pretty standard that guys entering the last year of their contract when traded will usually net a 4th rounder.
You might be right about a rising D. Williams. Better OLB prospects, - I assume you mean Orchard or Kihaha? I regretted that Mannion pick about a minute after I hit <SAVE> when I posted the thread.
** Please provide URL for articles or soundbites about Mayle not looking good at the Sr. Bowl practices as I have heard nothing but positive reviews --- even from Mike Mayock.

Yes, we know what we'd get with Wilson...infuriatingly bad CB play, no shot at getting any interceptions, taunting the WR when the WR had him beat but the QB just overthrew him. No thanks. I'd rather start a rookie at the slot corner than Wilson. The team is rebuilding. There's no need to hold onto mediocre vets. The same goes for Harris. In all likelihood, Rex will want him in Buffalo and they will offer him more than the Jets are willing to pay. At least that's what I hope that happens. I've never been a fan of Harris. He's been a nice player, but has left a ton of plays on the field because of his slow speed. He can't really cover and can't get to a lot of plays. He's one of the reasons that opposing TEs and RBs have killed us over the middle. No thanks. I'd only want him for veteran depth.

You may be right with Coples. I don't keep up with trade values. Still, if he plays and has a good year this year, the Jets could decide to keep him, especially since Bowles likes to mix things up like Rex and Coples has positional flexibility.

No, definitely not Orchard or Kikaha. They're both 4-3 DEs, not 3-4 OLBs. I like Lorenzo Mauldin, and maybe Zack Hodges and Markus Golden better than Harold, at least at this point in the process, but that's because I've seen them play and have read more about them.

As for Mayle, I'll try to find the quotes, but look in the Sr. Bowl thread in the Draft forum. EDIT: Sorry, my bad. Actually, I didn't find much about Mayle at all. I saw one comment:

"It is hard to gauge what live action results will be, but I will comment that I like the looks of VINCE MAYLE/WR #15 as a kick returner. He accelerates quickly and has a long, but balanced stride. With a bit of blocking he could give the North some solid field position come Saturday. But then again who knows if he has actually won the job or not. MAYLE has also shown some nice flashes as a receiver as well.'

Otherwise, it was more the lack of mention of Mayle when talking about the North Squad's talented WRs.

http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/senior-bowl.83234/ - No mention of Mayle among the North Squad's "talented WRs"

Poster CleveSteve said that: 81 Vince Mayle WR 6'3 219 Washington State Pac-12 has been very unimpressive all week.
