Pit is locked in for one of the WC spots, IMO. There's only 1 up for grabs and we're right in the mix.
nobody in the AFC is locked for shit. Steelers lose a key player every week and ben isn't 100% he was rushed back. Bills are decent but very beatable. Raiders have hit the shitter. Chiefs are underacheiving big time this year but seem to be on to something.. still very beatable. Houston, yeah i know they beat us.. what does that say about us.. whatever .. theyre not that good. idc what happened last week. and then there is us with as many problems as the rest listed. It's wide open. Steelers lose to seahawks on sunday and bills take another L.. we're right back in it.
Problem is we lose tiebreakers to the Texans, Raiders, and currently the Bills. That's a big problem. We're going to have to have better records then those 3 teams in order to have a chance. I wouldn't have such a bad outlook on the rest of this season if we didnt just lose to a TJ Yates.
Head to head tiebreakers don't matter if there's a multiway tie. Conference record becomes the first tiebreaker.
I know that.I should have clarified, but what i'm saying is that if we are tied with anyone of those teams for the last spot we lose out head to head. And right now that's 2 of them in the hunt with us.
To me, KC looks the the one that's locked in. They keep playing better, and their schedule from here to the end is pitiful.
Yea, I'm just hoping it comes down to a 3 way tie for 9-7 so we can throw those losses out the window
I don't mind the opposing fans that come around and graciously contribute to discussions knowing they are in someone else's house. Kind of a nice change from time to time. You however, my friend, are insufferable. The insipid shit that spills from your brain and onto the keyboard is of no value to anyone and fills the room like a sour fart. My guess is the other Bills fans are mean to you. I mean seriously, this quote...it's not even intelligible. As if there is a goblin inside your skull, jizzing ideas and 'thoughts' from his diseased penis you then type for everyone to see. Not for nothing, and certainly no intentions of derailing a thread....but, yeah, he does in fact exist. It is a historical fact. Kind of like, Atila or Genghis or Cesar.
Wrong. Conference record is the 3rd tiebreaker. Three or More Clubs (Multiway Tie for Wild Card) Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. Head-to-head matchup. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.) Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four. Strength of victory. Strength of schedule. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. Best net points in conference games. Best net points in all games. Best net touchdowns in all games. Coin toss
I guess if you asked me on labor day if I would take 5-5 and be where we are right now I would have taken it. That's the best I can do until we win a game.
Yes, I agree. The Jets have lost almost every game that matters in playoff tiebreakers except the Colts. Losing to Yates is a huge disappointment. The Texans might win the division. If so, that would help the Jets. After that they still have to worry about the Raiders and Chiefs. It will be a big mountain to climb. To make the playoffs: The following must happen. 1. Beat the phins on Sunday for the season sweep. Falling below .500 and letting the Dolphins back in the hunt would be devastating and unlikely we come back from that. 2. Finish with a better record than 2 of 3 out of the Raiders, Chiefs and Steelers. 4. The Texans either need to win the division or go on a big losing streak. 5. The Bills also beat the Colts, so it is extremely important we beat them on the last game and finish with a better record. Tough spots that can likely play a big role in the outcome: -Bills still play the Chiefs and the Texans. Ideally we want the Bills to lose to the Texans and probably beat the Chiefs. -The Chiefs play the Raiders twice, which means one of them could win both. I think the best outcome for the Jets is a season split between the 2 teams, although they can probably afford it if the Chiefs win both. -The Colts play Pittsburgh. Big conflict of interest here. I think the better outcome for us is for Pittsburgh to win this one to ensure the Colts are in the WC hunt rather than division winners. The Steelers have a pretty tough schedule to close out, so I believe the Jets can afford a win for them here. -Houston still has to play Indy. We should root for Houston in this one. -Steelers still have to play Seahawks, Bengals, Broncos. Those could easily be 3 losses, so they need to lose to either the Browns, Ravens or Colts somewhere in the mix to finish 8-8. Obviously the Jets will have to finish 9-7 or better. So basically it's doable but A LOT has to go the Jets way. The most important thing is for the Jets to start winning, starting with this Sunday. It's now or never.
All these arguments are huge what ifs and so what. Tie breakers at this point are fairly meaningless. They can change between now and then depending on who we beat and who looses to whom. Too hard to worry about it. I'm as pissed as the next guy...beating the Texans and Oakland would have given us a huge cushion. But we are not there yet, we are not good enough, not by a long shot. Only one Thruth stands ahead for us. Win all the remaining games and we are in. You won't have to give two shits about what the other teams do, because of the remaining head to head competition amongst them. Conversely, if we continue to play l like in the last four games, we won't have to worry about tie breakers either, because our record would be shit.
We all know in the back of our mind it will come down to the final weeks, how else could it unfold? We are the Jets after all!!!! Beat NE to get in, perfect season vs jets playoff berth. Then a heads up battle with Rex for a playoff spot.Just how the NFL scripted it.
