I really only remember 2 missed passes, and one of them was the first play which could be attributed to super bowl jitters. He was 18-25 with one of the incompletes being in Kearse's hands in the end zone and another throwing away on the run (the one they were arguing for grounding, which wasn't really close the receiver was there). Wilson and the Seattle "O" is getting a little too much overlooked from yesterday. First Drive - completed 3rd and 9 for 12 yards, ran on 3 and 6, I agree with challenge cannot believe didn't mark and measure - 9 plays 51 yards result FG Second Drive - 3rd and 7 complete for 9 yards, 3rd and 4 completed for 6 yards, 3rd and 5 completed for 37 yards, 3rd and 14 Incomplete (in hands in endzone) - 9 plays 51 yardsresult FG First 2 drives 4 for 5 on 3rd downs throws. Third drive - only 3rd down (pass interference) Wilson 2 for 2, 12 yards 7 plays for 37 yards result touchdown. Seattle had no other possessions in the first half but the one that took 2 plays to run out the clock. So while the D is getting the credit - all Seattle did was score everytime they had the ball in the first half. In third quarter TD drive - Wilson completed his only 3rd down pass third and 7 for 12 yards. In fourth quarter TD drive - In only 3rd down he completed a 6 yard pass on 3rd and 2. Seahawks had 2 offensive possessions all game with Wilson that they did not score. 1 they got the ball deep in own territory, Wilson ran for 22 ansd was called back for holding, making it 2 and 20, they really did not try and get the first - backed up. The other they had the ball almost 5 minutes and drove 33 yards without Wilson throwing a pass until they went on 4 and 1.
It's very rare for someone to actually make me laugh out loud (for realz) on here, that was funny. Lol
The QB's in postseason may have been similar but Wilson's 2013 year is better than Sanchez can ever dream of having ... And a good part of the reason they were the #1 seed. Put Wilson on that 2010 Jets team and we probably win the SB ... And even moreso in 2009. We don't k own if Geno can ever be Wilson, but he still has upside and if he comes close, I think we're building a defense that will be good enough to win a championship.
If this SB showed us anything it's that you don't need a QB to go out and throw for over 300 yards to win games. What you need is to play smart on offense, control the ball and play defense, just like in the old days. What is going to propel us to the next level is going to be the ability of our new GM to find contributors, over achievers, who are going to be coached up by this staff. We are all salivating at the amount of cap space available to go out and sign all the name players but the key here is to play smart in FA and try upgrade every area of need either through FA or the draft. You don't need the high dollar FA's, you need guys that can be better then the one's they are replacing, something we didn't do over the years on the offensive side of the ball. Rex needs to get away from his love affair with over the hill players and get younger and faster on both sides of the ball.
The cyclical nature of the NFL is emerging again. This is two championships in a row won by defensive teams with a good but not great QB. You could argue that the Giants in 2011 were similar however despite Eli not being a great QB the Giants tend to air it out as if he is anyway.
Wilson's reg season was better w/o a doubt but in postseason they played very similar except Seattle had a legit great D where we did not.
Baltimore wasn't a defensive team, they won w/ offense. teams that won w/ D in the last decade: 2005 Pitt 2006 Indy 2007 NYG 2008 Pitt 2011 NYG 2013 Sea
and not just any offense, but a passing offense - the running game for the Ravens was non-existent. Don't turn the football over and keep drives going by doing what you do best that's key. I truly believe if Wilson were on the Jets squad in 2009 and / or 2010 (hypothetically), we would have won our conference game. Dude is such a gamer and makes those around him better. I mean who heard of Jermaine Kearse before this season? We desperately need a draft where we pull like 5 quality starters. We can go places next season if we can achieve an excellent draft and not blow all of our cash in FA.
If we had the Seattle D in 2009 and 2010 we win both title games and probably both SBs, we didn't lose b/c of the QB. I like Wilson, I think he plays Sanchez-like in postseason.
Wilson can extend plays, and run with the football. He has a stronger arm. And I believe he makes better decisions under pressure. I bet you Wilson doesn't fumble the football against the Steelers on 3rd and 15. He doesn't play Sanchez-like. That added dimension and who knows how much that helps against the Steelers early in the game or against the Colts late.
This post is 100% correct. Since he was a HC in this present 45 year drought of NOT being a Super Bowl Champs this is really not news right?
Sanchez was blindsided in less than 2 seconds as we failed to pick up a blitz and I still think that was a forward pass. would have happened to any QB against Pitt early in the game the Pitt O was dominating TOP. do we forget how Wilson and Seattle fell behind big early in both playoff games last year? late against the Colts mark lost his only reliable RB, Indy w/ 2 great pass rushers at home knew we had to pass against a rookie QB.
our Ds in 2009 and 2010 were nowhere near what we saw on Sunday. we had the best player on either team but Seattle is loaded w/ pass rushers and fast LBs- 2 things we never had.
What I saw was simply this -The Mighty Power of a Strong Defense For you Jet Fans who watched perhaps one of the most one sided Superbowl of the modern era I offer the following thoughts. The D absolutely, positively won that game. They literally destroyed the most potent offense in the NFL and quite frankly manhandled the Denver front line into submission from the opening whistle to the last embarrassing drive by the Broncos. The Hawks D, particularly the secondary, is fast, athletic, hard hitting and simply spectacular in coverage. I'm now a firm believer that without an elite D or at least a very damned good one you will not be a champion. Its stands to reason that both Seattle and San Francisco are two heavy weight fighters head and shoulders above the rest of the teams. Forget NE, Denver, the Eagles and the rest. A premier D still rules the NFL. Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships. I say this because like it or not, that is exactly the formula that Rex attempted to institute for the Jets, clearly not nearly as successful, but it seems to me it's beginning to jell for us so I hope we don't go brain dead and disband it before its time and overreach on the draft for offense just to fill a needed slot . We might very well be a stud or two away at safety, OLB and CB from having a similar powerful D. I know everyone is clamoring for Offense, Offense, and more offense on the first 2-3 rounds, and no doubt for obvious reasons. But I hope we stick with the sacred mantra of all successful drafts. BPA first and foremost. If that happens to be a Safety or OLB or Guard then so be it. It will pay huge dividends just as it did with Sheldon. IMHO Seattle was build through the draft and selected free agency from the ground up with heavy emphasis on the D and the OL first. They did not, repeat did not pissed away draft choices on dumb trade ups and idiotic trades (read Tebow and others). For those that muck that strategy and call our GM nothing but a Seattle copy cat I offer this. I sure hope so. I'll take it any day of the week. Yesterdays SB was by far the best display of single coverage secondary and suffocating defensive line I have seeing since the steel curtain. The Seattle offense was granted unbelievable opportunities. Wilson was solid but nothing spectacular. The D and special teams set the stage and won the game.
I don't remember Wilson's D putting his team in a huge hole this postseason but last year they fell behind big at Atlanta and the D held enough to take the lead(then blew it) while our D didn't even give our O a chance. and Wilson did fumble on the first play of the game in the title game giving SF an early lead, the D never allowed the deficit to get out of hand unlike our D.
