They throw to him on 1st and 2nd too. Don't expect to see them running this week like they did at Oakland.
Ocho will get a chance to be a playmaker in this scenario. I just don't see Cro on Gronkowski. His "subtle" continuous holding of receivers (which the officials have finally stopped letting go) will look much less subtle trying to hold this guy up.
I don't see why the Pats will not try to run. The rook, Ridley looks pretty good. Don't know if they'll be successful, but I expect the Pats will try to be more balanced. Especially if the Jets play the same D they surprised the Pats with in the playoffs.
ok but on 3rd downs, Brady loves to target Welker. Revis, if given the opportunity, should blanket Welker on 3rd downs. And I have a feeling they'll run more like they did last week. I wish they would because I would rather the Jets stop the rookie stripping balls out of his hand, etc, than having to deal with Brady pass happy ways.
Aaron you might as well take a saw and cut off that limb. Putting the 5'10 185lb Wilson on the 6'7 265lb Gronk is a match up made in Patriot heaven. Try again
I want the JETS to all out blitz Brady on his very first passing play. He needs to feel uncomfortable in the pocket. Look at Brady this season. He drops back with all the time in the world. Many times the guy goes through 3-4 reads before dumping it off. This will make Wilson' job much easier. If he has to run around with Welker when Brady is comfortable standing back there for 3.5+ seconds, advantage will always go to Welker.
, This might have been a good description of the Wes Welker of the past 4 years, but this year has been entirely different, rule. He's averaging OVER 15 ypc, which is 50% more than his career average. His ypc average is better than Calvin Johnson's (BTW Carolina's Steve Smith is averaging almost 20 ypc to lead the league.....by far) No Welker is not just catching bubble screens and 5 yd drop offs, he's doing it all this year, back should fades, deep posts, and go routes. I don't know how the Jets will cover him. However I do believe that any competent NFL DC can shut down ONE aspect of a team's arsenal. I imagine Rex can too. It will be up to Brady to determine which guy is open. He missed a lot of open guys in the playoff game when the Jets surprised him with that max protect zone. Hopefully he'll be better. But if I had to guess, I'd think the zone is a better option for the Jets, because its just too dangerous to play man to man when the Pats are giving Brady a lot of time, and the Jets are almost as bad as the Pats in rushing the passer
I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets line up 9 guys on the LOS, but I will be surprised if they send all of them. I see them in something like a 3-6-2, all but the S's bunched at the LOS and then overload blitz on one side while still keeping 6 men back on D. From there they can alternate 3 man rushes with max coverage, with an occasional all out blitz to keep him guessing. Is it coming from the left? Is it coming from the right? is it coming at all? Is it coming all at once? You have to keep Brady guessing. If he "knows" then you are cooked. BTW- I wouldn't mind seeing the Pats do something like this to the Jets
Which is inflated heavily by McFadden having a very good game and a couple of good runs. I am not saying the D is playing great against the run but its certainly not that bad.
I would love to see that too but Brady would never accept that. This is a payback game for him and I expect him to throw the ball 45 times..I also expect our side to catch 4 or 5 of those throws.
If we don't think Belickicken isn't scheming to use Welker as a decoy to free up other weapons we are screwed! I can see a serious change to our game planning on defence this week and Wilson will probably play a big part, not sure if he us up to man to man on Welker but we are going to see a few new looks this week I am certain.
I wish the Jets would put Wilson on Welker. I see Wilson playing more in sub packages. I don't think Hernandez is back this week. Even if he's not, you'll see a fair amount of 2 TE sets. If the Jets go to nickel and/or dime, expect the Pats to run and play action a lot. My guess is that Welker lands on Revis Island.
Which is my point exactly. Welker on Revis Island will create a lot options for pretty boy unless we are ready for them. Belichiken knows we are playing with a lot of aggression and passion this week after our display last week. He will be scheming to misdirect us.
True. But sometimes coaches can over think/strategize game planning. Do what you do well, which to me means that Rex puts Revis on Welker. Try and take him out of the game. In sub packages I'd expect to see a lot of Cromartie on a TE. Will he mix up coverages? You bet. But I expect to see Revis on Welker for the majority of the snaps.
I think Cro is the best matchup on Gronk because his speed and length will keep Gronkowski from getting seperation. It's not so much containing Gronk after the catch but to keep him from catching the ball. Cro is the best athlete on the defense so it'd be pretty tough for a big guy like Gronk to get open. If he does get the ball Eric Smith will need to venture over to lay the wood.
