Really really surprised about all the negativity First off, JD just picked two ROYs plus Breece Hall. Then you hsve JJ, Clemons (who i love) and Mitchell. Guy deserves some credit and some slack Second, almost all of the criticism is about what we needed. Drafting with need as the priority (especially early) is dumb strategy Third, our supposed need may not be as big as many feel. The FO has the best info about the current players (certainly more than we have). ALso a great QB in synch w the OC is going to cure a lot of ills Fourth and perhaps most important, maybe the guys we were all talking about at OT aren’t as good as we think they are. JD has certainly shown a willingness to trade to move up in the draft if he covets some player. He did it for JJ he did if for Breece. If he thought one of the top OT were all that great he would have moved up. Keep in mind that Tennesse supposed right tackle went before two of the supposed top 3. Maybe we were buying into media hype on those guys Also consider truly elite OTs usually get picked way early. So while good even great OT may be had in our range of picks let’s not act like we DEFINITELY missed out on the second coming of Orlando Pace. Maybe we did, but unlikely. We got a guy at a premium position. If he ends up playing LB all the better. SF had a history of finding good LB talent so maybe Saleh knows something there. ALso our best LB is old and expensive. My suggestion is to chill some, enjoy the weekend, and hope JD got someone more like last year’s picks than what some totally different FO did a generation ago with Lageman or whoever else Also this gives us the flexibility to dump Lawson who is getting paid more than he’s worth
I just think you could’ve given the Jets a huge offensive boost by adding a weapon there. Receivers are immediate impact players and JSN was ripe for the picking. We’re pretty thin at receiver and relying an awful lot on two bigger plodding receivers standing at the receiver age cliff for guys who play like them.
So if he jumps in the mix and only plays 30% of snaps, you would be cool with that? I certainly expect much more from a top 15 pick. Acting like McDonald is somehow in same tier as an all time great like Von Miller is downright laughable.
Yeah I’m fine with it. You used a premium pick on a premium position. JSN would have been a more exciting pick and that is who I wanted once Jones got picked, but it says a lot that the guy dropped all the way to 20. I also didnt say McDonald is Von Miller, but ignoring the fact he broke his record because you don’t like the pick is equally laughable.
Agreed. Not to mention Corey Davis literally can’t ever stay healthy. They literally had other options still but went with a super luxury luxury pick. I’m holding judgement until the rest of the draft but people acting like JD is too mighty to ever question a decision from need to get over themselves.
I wouldn’t have complained with a WR but there’s something odd with the OSU guy dropping as far as he did. Last draft Jameson Williams got picked higher (12) with a significant injury. Last year we heard JSN is better than GW and Olave yet JSN slides to 20. SOmething funky there. I think guys wanted us to draft JSN of 2022 vintage.
On one hand, I trust JD and Robert Saleh know what they are doing with this pick. On the other hand, the history of the Jets making surprise picks in the 1st round is REALLY BAD. Only time will tell.
How much was JSN going to play? According to reports Hardman was told he’s going to have a much bigger role than just being a gadget guy and I’m also fully on board with that. I would assume that means he’s going to play in the slot. Corey Davis can play out of the slot. All of our WRs can. To me JSN was the ultimate luxury pick. I would have liked it but I’m far from upset we didn’t go that route. If we do want to go WR there are some nice options. Hyatt out of the slot would be fun as hell, and I still don’t think that’s going to be the pick.
Is it? We traded for Aaron Fuckin Rodgers and somehow still have the ability to draft potentially the best pass rusher in this class. It could have been worse, we could’ve had no pick at all like every other team that trades for a star. But because we didn’t take the fourth tackle off the board it’s a disaster? This Fanbase is so damaged man.
If you’re putting that much faith in a guy over a college record than you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
I have yet to see a single scouting report that refers to McDonald as "potentially the best pass rusher in this class". Can you kindly provide one?
Well the only saving grace I’ve got is the kid who announced the pic deserves a lifetime of being able to say “I’m the one who introduced the pick for that guy!”, therefore Will McDonald the 4th has no choice but to become a HoF caliber player for the sake of that kid.
The Jets feel like a worse version of the 2000's era teams. They're making many of the same mistakes but off of a lesser talent base.
Same. Usually these can’t miss pass rushing prospects go really early too. A lot of people are just jumping on the JD bandwagon and worship every move he makes.
Let me amend that… Best pass rusher outside of Will Anderson. You can find him being called the best edge rusher outside of Anderson.
God willing this turns into another John Abraham situation. Pre-'venomous message boards', the only indicator of reaction we had were clueless Jets fans on camera saying "Who?" after the Abraham pick. 'Who' indeed...
In theory, nothing wrong with this pick. He will see the field. We do need help on defense. We are very shallow in depth and there will be injuries. Hopefully he can do the job. We may even see a trade cause of this, like lawson. Who knows. There had to be a lively discussion in the room before the pick, probably including calls to potential trade partners. I like that they took their time. I think that usually results in a better decision.
