    I am not saying that.

Sheldon was an unrestricted free agent this year.

If we outbid the Vikings for his services we keep Darnold and get Sheldon back.

Somehow we’re not allowed to call a player out on how he sounds in interviews because it’s now “racist”? Seems you’re the racist here, assuming it’s a color/race issue and not just a “speaking” issue, which is clearly not one of his strengths.

Some other jackass said it’s “because he’s from the south”. Now there’s your racist.

    Ah, my mistake.
I wouldn’t have paid Sheldon what the Vikings did.

I don’t know, it’s really hard to get excited for this pick.
I like the kid and his game, but he does little to move the needle forward.
People don’t want to hear this, but Leonard Williams was a similar prospect coming out.

Leonard in his last year in college, had 1 less sack, but 10 more tackles, 3 forced fumbles (vs. 0), 3 passes defended (vs. 0), and 1 int (vs. 0).

Maybe Quinnen works out better, I do believe he has a higher ceiling but personally I would have loved to see the Jets trade down, draft Jonah Williams and recoup a 2nd rounder that could be used on a Center, CB, or WR.

I have no faith in this current regime’s ability to scout past the first round.

Staying off this website all night last night was probably the best move I could have made. I will say though, nowhere near as much whining and bitching as I thought there would be upon my first backread. We’re making progress!

Drafting Williams wasn’t my first or even second choice. But you have to be a fool to complain about getting him at three when a good portion of the pundits had him ranked as the best player in the draft. He may be redundant because it says DT next to his name but he’s more than that. His tape is insane. The fact that we have Gregg Williams running things makes me confident that the talent we have between Q and Leo is going to be evident this year.

Now try to get back into the second, get some OL, CB help and hope Deebo drops to our 3A

    Tony:

I said MacCagnan used three picks on the DL last year, and that is correct--The two picks you reference, and then he traded the 7th round pick for Henry Anderson (DL). That is using three picks on the DL last year, and then using number 1 this year again on DL--I hope he uses a couple picks this year on the OL, but he is so resistant to drafting OL.

Leonard Williams is a good player who's likely to be a quality NFL starter for a long time. He's started 63 of 64 possible starts that's more by a lot than any of the 5 players picked ahead of him in 2015. I guess we could have taken Beasley who was all pro his second year and had 15 plus sacks. He's never come remotely close since and is spending a lot less time on the field. Williams is out producing Beasley.

It's not magic. Williams was the BPA in that draft.

Why would Anderson not be back for 2020? He has a 3 year contract.

This is the reason that the pick can be okayed by those, like me, who wanted Allen or Bosa. A guy who can be that disruptive in the middle will require offenses to figure schemes to block him. That should give others on the DL like those mention, plus Adams, the ability to get pressure on the QB. I was surprised to learn that the Jets were in the middle of the league in sacks last season which says there are guys on the team that can generate QB pressure. In addition, his presence in the middle should help with defending the run which was pretty porous toward the end of the season. This pick is about as close as you can get to killing two birds with one stone.

My bad, he is only guaranteed to be here 2 more years. Probably won’t see the third year at 9mil as a 30 year old.

All the reference to Quinnen as the "safe" player is making me nuts. You use that adjective in a draft when a team takes a polished guy with a lower ceiling over a player with a ton of unrealized potential.

You don't use "safe" to describe a kid who was the best player on the field all season for the most dominant team in the most dominant conference, has tape that is so good it makes you chuckle and shake your head at times, is noted for his high degree of polish with regards to technique and IQ, and who destroyed the combine...yet still has potential to grow and develop. This isn't the same type of prospect as Leonard Williams.

The proper word to use here is "best" or "obvious" player. This backhanded idea that Mac took the "safe" player is insulting to Quinnen and the Jets, because that word has very specific connotations in draft nomenclature - avoiding risk by taking an inferior player.

Leonard Williams was also listed as the most safe and highest rated prospect and we all have seen how average he has been. Solid player but we all hoped we would get more from him. I’m just tired of recycling these Dlineman and the results stay the same. Sometimes it’s worth taking a risk on a player. I know people are going to bring up the disaster Vernon Goulston was but Josh Allen is a fast player off the edge and plays fast all around and isn’t the workout warrior Vernon was.

    This.

Quinnen is to top D-Line player in the draft with no injury/red flags, and will be playing along side another top D-Line player in his draft.

Jets D will own the pocket.

Allen is good too, but not Lawrence Taylor good. Or even Von Miller good. Macc may have seen him more of a Coples good.

Yes, we could have used a Lawrence Taylor more than a Warren Sapp, but we can't pass on a Warren Sapp for Quinton Coples (or a TE Kyle Brady).

Macc wanted to trade down too for this exact scenario but unfortunately no one was offering jack shit. So Macc decided to give Greg Williams the best player in the draft.

If he can develop a few more moves, he can be Von Miller good. He has the speed. The Coples comparison is a little off. Coples was never a speed rusher and used more leverage and physicality to get to the QB. You cant teach the speed Allen has.

LW and QW might be a better fit together then Wilk and Sheldon.

Well, personally I wanted Josh Allen... thought he'd be a better fit, but it's hard to knock this guy as an individual player. Even Cimini likes him.... also saw this:

    Post-Draft Analysis

Taking the best available player and pairing him with a respected defensive coordinator like Gregg Williams is a good way to address a defense in need of an overhaul. Gregg Williams is reportedly staying with the 3-4 base defense, so Quinnen Williams likely will take over as the starter at nose tackle. If that's the case, he will bolster the run defense, and he should be able to win one-on-one matchups on downs with pass-heavy tendencies. -Steve Muench

I'm also thinking they were targeting this dude all along, hence the pursuit of Anthony Barr.... unfortunately that toad flaked out, or this defense is just a piece or two away from being nasty

I'm all for drafting best player available... but we've been down this road before. Mac talks about having both Williams on the field and the stout D-line we will have.
At one time, we had L. Williams, Richardson, Wilkerson and Damon Harrison (who was the best out of all these guys and we should have never let go)...
yeah, we had a good defensive line, but it never stopped teams like the Patriot's from marching up and down the field at will.
