Right when the Jets were on the clock they showed Mel's QB board. He had Aigne as his 8th. The best QB still available. I honestly said out loud "holy shit!" A couple seconds later the Jets grabbed him. Ainge is Penny with a little more size and 2 less rotator cuff surgeries.
I love this pick. I honestly believe he could be the best QB of this class - said it before we picked him.
Given that my guy was taken by the team that for some reason feels a need to now have 6 QBs on their roster I guess Ainge was the next best thing. One good thing about this guy is David Cuthcliffe, I'd say he knows something about NFL QBs and if he thinks Ainge can play in the league then it's worth a gamble in the 5th round.
I like the pick. Any QB would have been fine with me. They say he is very accurate but doesn't have a super strong arm (Sound familiar?). He certainly has the size..6'5" 1/2. I'm hopeful. I wonder if he now becomes part of the competition.
Hey, he has the tools, he's played at a high level. He has some intangibles and some desire to get better. If we're going to take a quarterback, this is a good one to pick.
Watch the highlights. One thing he does better than any of the QB's is show off his great pocket awareness. Very brady-like in his mobility and anticipation of the rush.
Bill Walsh always said you should draft a QB every year to develop either for a replacement starter or for trade value. This guy in the fifth round looks like a good development project. He's accurate based on his stats, and he's smart, and he's big and tall. Maybe he'll grow into the job, and we'll make something out of him.
I'm excited Ainge is a Jet!! Hey everyone, long time Vol fan here from Tennessee, and I just wanted to drop in and say I'm pumped Ainge is coming to this camp. I dig the Jets program very much and look forward to watching him grow within a killer organization!!!! He's a great leader, and to all of the neigh-sayers who hate this pick and would have rather had a Colt Brennen (from that battle hardened WAC conference...snicker snicker.) or think he's a no-go player, apparently you didn't pay much attention to his last two seasons. He put up numbers comparable to Peyton Manning (though most of you who doubt Ainge probably don't think peyton is any good either...DAFT), and led a UT team of mediocre talent to successful seasons. The wins were his more than anyones.
Well one thing the Vols didn't have was a talented core of receivers. Arian Foster is a decent back but you're right, Ainge did not get a whole lot of help.
Well, when Clemens was drafted he was part of the QB competition in his rookie camp. I hope Ainge is too. He came out of an elite program so he should have the smarts to pick up at least some of the NFL system pretty quickly.
His Junior year He had Robert Meacham, but last year he got it done with little to no help, fact is if he had just one go to guy in the wings he'd have probably had much higher numbers than he did....he certainly wouldn't have been sitting around as an 5th rounder....a steal really
