Correct on Coples, confused him with Gholston on draft position. But you’re also the one declaring he won’t be functional in the NFL. That doesn’t mean that’s what will happen. He’s got enough on tape that leads people a whole lot more experienced than you and I to believe he was a 2nd/3rd round pick in this draft.
Ok let's get him signed and in training camp. He definitely will get a lot of media coverage after Darnold.
Didn't Coples also play end in Ryan's 3-4 alignment? He wasn't very good and that is why they moved him to backer.
I didn't - and don't - hate it, but I agree with your wish. I simply find it hard to believe that Macc couldn't find a stud pass rusher or OL.
This CS has to go...imo Mac can stay..because I think Bowles has his hands on this latest pick and will push for more defensive signings for another 8 years...he is still living the 1980s Got help us he doesn't ruin Darnold Our goal now is to keep the Offense growing and happy ..let Bowles show how he can't manage talent and he's outa here))
I admit I didn't know squat about the guy. Upon reading up on him, he actually really intrigues me. We are DESPERATE for another DE to help Leo out, I think this guy has a real chance to be very solid for us. Welcome to the team Shep !
Rex ran Coples through linebacker drills at his Pro day. His idea was always to play Coples at line backer. Rex loved Long armed line backs that couls set the edge and do some pass rushing. He did not feel that you needed a stud pass rusher off the edge as his scheme could manufacture pressure. It was a huge fucking mistake and a draft Pick I hated at the time.
DAmon Harrison was just one year younger when he broke into the league as an undrafted free agent out of a small school.
U know all of U are not looking at this rationally IMHO. The guy is going to be 25 & according to every thing I read he will not be ready to play until he is 28 or so so IMHO MCC wasted a 3rd pick on a player who will not be playing many downs for us. With all the players available MCC could have picked any junior from college give him the same amount of aging & had us a player that would give us 5/6 years of service
I always felt like they got caught up in the fact he was sliding and couldn't resist the perceived 'value' in the pick - it never made any real sense beyond that concept of value. edit: for interest I just checked out the draft thread for the Coples pick and wow did people not like that selection at the time.
Shouldn't we start with someone who's 24, since he's 24? Lots of college kids come out at 22, what's the big deal? True most don't go through the money and scholarship issues he went through and don't lose a year of playing time but what does it matter?
He had shoulder and knee injuries, missed games. Then before the start of the season he checked himself into a rehab center. Reports were he was ignored because of character issues.
I'd love to know who are the stud pass rushers people think we're available in rounds 3-7. How help on the OL. Who did they pass up who was obviously the right pick? Please don't say Brown.
I hated the fact that his 'motor' was an issue. Holy shit, that is such a huge red flag to me. ZERO reason that should be mentioned alongside a first round pick - can't teach heart...
Unfortunately Rex thought he was the smart one and he could turn any lineman into a stud LB. He did it once in Baltimore so....
Seriously, you guys need to lighten up..just because Ryan only got to two straight title games and not a superbowl while being saddled with Mark Fuckin Sanchez as the QB forced down his throat you think he wasn't any good when in fact he was easily the second best coach in Jets history.
