Totally agree--a stupid signing. IMO never ever sign a special teamer in free agency (save kicker/punter). That is what undrafted free agents and low draft picks are for. Sounds like something stupid like Mike MacCagnan did--signing that WR/special teamer from the Bears for millions who was so bad I can't even remember his name.

But then you’d get mad when the unit continues to give up yards in bunches on returns. Jets gunners were bad. Mann had to go for more hang time on his punts due to terrible gunners. In all honesty your 5th and 6th CB’s and WR’s are playing prominent roles on specials anyway...why complain about this? Especially when he’s great at what he does?
I'm sure they did this to get instant results on STs instead of having to wait until week 8 for a handful of rookies to get the game speed of an NFL punting unit right in their head. You have a young punter with a monster leg and last season they didn't have anyone fast enough to get downfield to coffin corner many of those kicks. This was probably a prerequisite of Boyer coming back. "Give me some help, please.". So when one of the best gunners in the game comes loose as a cap casualty, you get him for CHEAP. I'm sure Saleh agreed.
I don't get how anyone can be mad that our pro personal department had this guy as a must get to help our special teams improve. Unfortunately this team, just like all teams have to punt. Guy got loose, we made sure he came to us. If he can help our punter get more consistent punt returns. That will be great. This in turn, can help our defense have a longer field to defend.
