I'm sure he explodes off the screen on every play of his highlight reel.

People keep bringing up all these character issues with Polite and I keep wondering, what character issues? That he interviewed poorly? Who cares?? He likely didn’t interview poorly with the Jets. It’s well known that these prospects have some good interviews and some bad interviews throughout the draft process all through draft history.

Who cares anyway, get on the field, display your non stop motor and get after the QB. Something he seems very good at and is a big need for the Jets.

This is where having a guy like Adams as the leader of the defense reveals its worth. Polite has the skill and potential with his past season’s stats to back it, he just needs the right leadership.

Adams both leads by voice as well as by example. He has that hunger to dominate, and you can see that mentality reflecting on the rest of the defense, as well as the team as a whole.

Adams wanted “dogs” on the team, and he’s beginning to get them. These guys are embracing that, too. Polite is going to be held accountable and *should* want to do whatever it takes to earn a spot as a cornerstone of this defense.

At the end of the day, he may or may not have it, mentally or physically. But whenever there is potential, this locker room should have a solid chance to tap into it.

You forgot about the part where he is trying to earn enough to help his mom retire because she’s worked hard labor since she was 12. What a scumbag :D

    Take this FWIW..

Turns out my personal trainer worked with Polite for the combine; he also worked with Andy Isabella and a few lesser known guys. He told me that Polite was indeed dealing with a lingering hamstring injury, and that hurt his offseason performance (confirming what some reports said). That being said, he said he was a really nice kid that did what he was told. Obviously, it was his client, but he thinks he will be a beast in the NFL. Time will tell, but nice to hear.

ALOT of my friends are die-hard Gator fans.... some alum, or their families, etc.... as soon as that kid was picked, I got multiple texts saying "The Jets just got a beast". Now of course college fans are usually homers, but hopefully theyre right.... I've seen enough of this kid to think they will be

I love how there is a pleasure amongst a few Jet fans to pick up shit on any one we draft, selectively highlighting the bad comments but not the good stuff, yet they piss in their pants when another team picks up a player with similar concerns or even suspended by the legue and herald their praises, High reward risk move worth every penny yada, yada, yada.
All I heard about him was people saying he is a headache, no details what's so ever. On the field he is a beast, and only a headache to the opposition. He was originally a first rounder before the combine, so it couldn't have been such a "headache" to most analysts before he tweaked his hamstring and drop to the third. Yet with his first paycheck he want to help his mother, not blow it on a Maserati, such a selfish act. What a headache indeed.
Did you ever notice the huge correlation between people that interview real well and people that actually play really well. Neither have I. I'm rooting for him. He is a Jet.

Mosley and Williamson as well.....even Copeland.
That's a strong high character LB room he will be in.

This guy is such a disaster that this thread deserves a bump. This is the exact reason why it’s always best to play it safe than to talk someone up who has had a bunch of question marks from day 1.

Sorry man, not your fault in the slightest (I would've said the same thing), but this didn't age well.

Oof losing Williamson AND the Copeland suspension lol.
I still contend that Copeland is an excellent presence in the locker room and a high character guy tho, so not much change on that front.

Polite had a strong locker room to learn from, and a great opportunity here.

We'll probably never hear the truth, but I'd love to know if the coaches thought Polite's problem was talent, work ethic, or if they were just dead set on proving a point..

This is the kind of stuff that was tolerated under incompetent fools like Toilet B and his culture of choking and failure. Glad the Gase/Douglas era pulls the plug on clowns like this. They gave him his chance, he didn't perform, he didn't act like a professional. And he deserves to be gone. What in the hell was Mac thinking spending a 3rd rounder on somebody with this kind of mental makeup?

Listen, Mac wasn't the worst football exec I've seen. Heck it looks like Blake Cashman may work out and I'm certain Q Williams will too (though he fell right into his lap and was a no brainer) but Mac has really made some inexplicable idiotic picks (Polite, Lee, Hack)

Jachai Polite was fined more than $100,000 during his time with the Jets

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...re-than-100000-during-his-time-with-the-jets/

So why did the Jets cut the cord on 2019 third-round draft pick Jachai Polite? While his on-field performance surely was a factor, disciplinary issues apparently came into play.

Per a league source, Polite was fined more than $100,000 for tardiness and other issues regarding doing things he shouldn’t have done or not doing things he should have been doing.

It’s not that Polite can’t afford to pay the fines. As the fourth pick in round three, he received a $1.122 million signing bonus from the Jets.

Unclaimed on waivers, Polite now will have a chance to prove himself as a member of the Seahawks’ practice squad.

A lot is now surfacing that cements the real issue with Polite. Commitment and discipline were seriously lacking. JD said numerous times that both of those traits are non negotiable to be a Jet. Case closed with this guy. You got to wonder how much in depth research on the intangibles was really conducted by the prior regime and if so how capable was the evaluation/scouting team.

    Mostly incapable

And it wasn't just the obvious bigger name misses. A. Stewart...Chad Hansen, Leggett, Jeremy Clark, Juston Burris. The previous regime was subpar when it comes to finding quality talent to fill out a roster. Now add Polite to the mix

I was very hopeful about this kid but man did that not pan out. The fact that he went unclaimed means virtually everyone had him on their do not draft list.

From the look of things, those things (commitment and discipline) were not very important with Bowles or Mac. Remember Bowles excusing Mo's being late and saying "those things happen"? The scouts could have clearly warned Mac, but he ignored them hoping he'd get lucky.
