People are getting a little too wrapped up in perceived value. There's really no such thing as too early once you get past the first 50-60 picks. Later in the draft it's just too unpredictable where guys will fall, you might as well take risks on skill and talent when a bunch of guys are all similarly rated. Especially at a need position.
We sign Vick, Decker, CJ, draft a very good TE prospect and people still complain we're doing nothing about the offense.
Just to add for comparison, in that same stretch (13 years)they've drafted: 8 DBs (4 #1s) in rounds 1-3 7 DLs (5 #1s) in rounds 1-3. (You can add 1 more if you consider gholston a DL. I consider him a shit head)
That shit doesn't matter. I don't care what the "experts" have slated this guy as, it doesn't matter. They are not in that draft room, they have nothing to do with any of these teams, and their insight is not nearly as good as the Jets insight on these players. If the Jets feel that he was somebody special, which they obviously do, then you should draft him. You should go by your board, regardless and this pick is exactly that. They don't give a fuck about what the media "experts" think players should go, they only care about their board. I'm am thrilled that they are not going to be pressured by any outside media BS, they are legit when they say they will follow their board and build through the draft with BPA being the method to all of this madness. So considering you don't know a fucking thing about the kid, maybe you should stop relying on these amazing media "experts" and go do some fucking research of your own. Watch an actual game of his, try it out. Sometimes (almost always) it is best to put together an opinion of YOUR OWN, instead of being just another puppet.
We sign Vick: On his way out in Philly and a MM choice. 1 hit away from the rocking chair. We sign Decker: Had Peyton Manning as a QB. Not any more. We sign CJ: If it was 5 years ago, I'd be estatic We sign a very good TE: We already had Cumberland so I'm not so sure what the emergency was.
I think the Jets should have traded for Lee, West, Matthews and Latimer. I would have even made Sheldon Richardson available in a trade. The offensive "talent" on this team is truly putrid.
And Richard freaking Sherman was a fifth-round pick, I don't want to hear about how we reached for some guy in the 3rd when the experts aren't always right either. If we can see the guy on film and go ga-ga over his speed so might another team.
Not if Rex is coach--He'll do what they did last year--Draft defense at the top, draft offense at the bottom of the draft so that we can play retreads like David Nelson, and dare I say it, Clyde Gates, again.
