AVT is super smooth and a tactician from what I’ve read, particularly in the passing game. The knock I’ve heard is he lacks a mean streak, can be passive + does not finish blocks/get to the second level. Not a road grader by any means, but good for a zone blocking scheme the Jets plan to employ.
He’s my favorite guy on the board... but I wouldn’t be upset with Javonte Williams or Terrace Marshall from an offensive skill position standpoint... a trade down... Creed Humphery... Asante Samuel... or Edge, Lber... Many directions the Jets can go now + they are in a nice spot.
Totally agree, but JD said last night in an interview that they have to do for Wilson, what they didn't do for Darnold. Protect him. So if Jenkins is there at 2, I think they draft him. But i agree, the can go in a multitude of directions
Someone must've talked to Mel Kiper because in his last mock draft on the eve of the draft he had the Jets trading up (with Arizona, not Minnesota) to draft Vera Tucker. not a chance he simply predicted that. I know McShay and Douglas are close friends, maybe Mcshay spilled the beans to his colleague
JD had him rated in the top ten. I don’t believe he had Jenkins rated nearly close to that. Jenkins might be our pick with the second round, or we might even trade down a little.
Super smooth, particularly in pass blocking--check. Lacks a mean streak and can be passive--check. Not a road grader-- check. Does not finish blocks? WTF? One of the things I was most impressed by in watching him is that he never gives up on a block until the whistle. I could not find one single instance. If you mean he doesn't put his guy on the ground, that's true. He's an engage-and-lock guy. Does not get to the second level? Watching his 2019 film (playing LG), he got to the second level regularly and that's actually where he shows his best skills. He wasn't getting to the second level this year playing LT, but that's pretty normal. With this guy playing next to Becton, I expect Baldy's heart to explode breaking down every Jets' game this season, win or lose. With Becton playing next to him, I fully expect AVT getting to the second level almost the way Mawae used to. He may not be doing it as a rookie--that's a lot to ask-- but give him a year or two, and these two guys are going to be great.
Dan Feeney is probably going to be the RG, guy has been a durable lineman and played his best as guard.
I think Clarke gets every opportunity to win this job.. it’s more beneficial cap wise for him to be the rg for the next 3 years than any other option.
he's the best rated IOL in the draft. Jets had him top 10 on their big board overall. he scored a 9.79 RAS out of 10 which is 25th best out of over 1100 IOLs from 2987 to current. Quinton nelson was a 9.67 for comparison
rumor is the raiders were gonna draft AVT so we wanted to jump them. pats and arizona didn't want to move down. pats wanted jones and arizona wanted collins and didn't want to be jumped. wouldn't have got their guys at 23. raiders wound up reaching for leatherwood since AVT was gone. funny enough someone made this mock joke about the raiders reaching for leatherwood prior to the draft and nailed it https://www.reddit.com/r/raiders/comments/n1hvnk/im_just_here_to_prepare_all_of_you/
Great move by Douglas! I was hoping Vera-Tucker would fall to 23 but it was unlikely. Douglas knew and pulled the trigger. Great 1st Round for the Jets! Also, @Rockinz responses were hilarious in this thread. Hope he has calmed down. It's a good pick.
