the runs to the outside worked, and then we stopped calling them the rollouts were well played by the raiders, after the first few
I think not having Mangold out there making calls on the line plays a much larger part of our current troubles than Schotty's play calling. He can have a set of amazing plays but if the line can't protect the QB for more than 2 seconds or open up holes for the RB, that's more their fault than Shotty's. That said, part of Schotty's problem is that while he might make changes from game to game, he hasn't showed the willingness/ability to do so within a game. Of course, he might be making adjustments but if the players can't execute how can we know?
I understand that we have to get a little vanilla with the playcalling now with the o-line in shambles but it's to the point where the defense knows EXACTLY what's coming... just look @ Sanchez's pik6 right there. He sat on the route and that's exactly what was called. Add all the runs up the gut which has been happening since Shotty has been here and we are just too predictable so the O-line isn't even an excuse. A counter/trap for the terminator goes for a since gain cause they didn't expect it. Where is a screen to keller? or to Greene? Anything other than the same routes and not only the route types but distance. They literally sit exactly where we are running our routes.
I don't necessarily disagree with you ... but you must be kidding if you think what your seeing tonight has anything to do with the play calling. we're getting the effin' snot kicked out of us up front. that's it and that's all. it's so bad that any time that we actually block a play they make a point of mentioning it. that's embarrassing.
This thread is old... but this has been going on for a few years now....that said. Just because your getting beat doesn't mean you can't call a roll out, TE screen , pitch out or anything different than what you have been calling the past 3 years.
Part of the reason the play calling can't be better this year is that we are limited with what we can do since there's only like half a second to throw. That doesn't let anything develop downfield and takes away half the playbook. Then because they know we can only throw short they can really know what we are doing and limit us even more, especially since they can blitz and get to the QB almost every time. Schotty may not be a great playcaller, but a good offense starts with the offensive line and we have a non existent one.
yes, as I stated before...that's understood but the fact is he's beed doing it for several years now. The fact that the o-line is bad means you are to get more creative. You have to adjust and hide your weaknesses NOT allow the opposing D to take advantage and continue to call the same plays over and over.
Watch a cowboy or saint game and you will see how awesome and creative the play calling is. payton and garrett are creative play callers. tonight was 99% offensive line but shotty just sucks period.
Yep, so far the players are letting us down this game but a typical fukin slant on our 1st 3rd down. Also, not 1 play on 1st or 2nd down that is designed to go past the 1st down. Week in and week out....same bullshit plays!
@the stadium, it's the same plays.Everything to ther sidelines. Runs up the gut (we are running well). Stop routes,2yd patterns.... Ridiculous
i was thinking the same damn thing. Even if Sanchez connects on those deep sideline passes, its highly unlikely the receiver would be able to come down in bounds
too many know it alls that make a lot of assumptions based on zero knowledge of being a oc or coach. it's easy to say thjis and that, but i doubt anyone on this site could do better. it's not that i think shotty is a good oc, but he's not as bad as some here claim! shotty is about average at best. maybe the calls have to do with what sanchez does best, or what he likes or that it's the defense's weakness. whatever it may be, i doubt anyone on this site is a better coordinator. when things aren't going so good it's easy to point the finger, just ask team captain holmes. it's getting petty with the shotty threads. act is, it's the team thats not playing as well as we had hoped, not just one guy!
schotty's called a great game. i've been at the head of the line for getting him fired, but he tends to do this all the time. he'll look like schitty schotty and then he'll call a good or great game to save his job
That was @ 1/2 time but in as a whole, it was a better called game.... especially when I rewatched it I realized we had a few new wrinkles which was nice to see. So yes, that one was too early to bitch about. Now onto tonights debacle......Slants, Dumpoffs fades... that pretty much sums it up.
He's the guy who knocked out the only member of their secondary that wasn't planning on pursuing a career handing people their dinner and lunch out of a sliding glass window. It makes me sick to think they were so beat up back there that they were playing the Groper in the 4th quarter.
I get it, yes fire shotty but some more food for thought. It seemed to me the Jets were playing not to lose and not make mistakes instead of playing to win.
