Vegas and bookies have been winning the game for decades. Way before the commercialization of football or widespread legal gambling. You’re acting like gambling is new or something.
What are you talking about? Gamblers have been influencing games - in all sports - as long as there's been sports. And whenever, and however, they can get an edge, they'll do it. But that isn't the issue. The issue is that the officiating sucks and in ways that seem to favor certain teams or penalize other teams. What's the reason for that? Simply incompetent officials? Whatever the reason the NFL has a real problem because a lot of fans don't buy the explanations given out by the league, and hold onto to their own explanations, none of them good.
Isn't good old-fashioned incompetence a good enough reason for bad calls? Human error? There is no way something as huge as that kind of conspiracy could ever be kept secret. Another thing about humans, aside from having a penchant for being incompetent, is a total inability to keep secrets. It would come out. Officials make mistakes like everybody else.
