This isn't true at all. I was reading the forums yesterday and they don't think this is an easy win by any stretch. They are counting this as possibly the hardest game on their schedule and that this could easily be a loss if they let Ivory run rampant like he's been doing

It would be flexed to Sunday night, but I think that can only happen after week 10?

One thing new to note. Looking at the weather looks to be a tad windy and rainy this weekend. Not really sure who that favors. I would assume us with our ability to shut down their run, and our running game being the heart and soul of the offense.

You think Belichick will hose down the field to make Ivory slip and slide? If it wasn't for his need for slot receivers to make quick cuts I'd be sure of it.

Yea, but every single person saying that is expecting a W.

It's probably a wash. It could turn it into a physical, run oriented game, which would favor us by a landslide. But at the same time Brady is one of the best bad weather quarterbacks and Fitz has a hard time throwing when its 75 and sunny.

Wait why has he historically been a great bad weather QB again? Wasn't there a story on that this offseason?

I think bad weather is almost always an advantage for the Pats, or I should say, they believe it is.

My absolute #1 key to this game is the corners being physical and getting hard jams at the line of scrimmage. Brady is getting the ball out of his hands at an average of 2.11 seconds, which Pro Football Focus says is the fastest they've ever tracked. We need to reroute these guys so Brady has to hold onto the ball for an extra split second and the interior of our line can take advantage of their O-line, which currently features 3 rookies, a practice squad player and the right tackle playing left tackle. Hard jams will also open up the playbook for some of Bowles' slower developing blitzes, stunts and twists. If Brady's just dinking and dunking like usual then the heavy mismatch in the trenches is negated (this is exactly what they did to the Bills). Jams at the line of scrimmage will also ruin their pick/rub plays, which are an integral part of their offense. Remember why Malcom Butler was able to pick off that pass to win the Super Bowl? Great play by him, but an even better play by Browner to jam the shit out of his guy at the line of scrimmage, preventing the pick play from occurring and opening up an alley for Butler. We need Revis and Skrine to be as physical as possible at the LOS to make all this happen. It was the exact formula for that 2010 divisional round win.

Tackling is also key. When Brady takes his 3-4 yard dump offs to Edelman, Amendola, Gronk and Lewis, we need to make sure they're on the ground immediately and not racking up YAC. This'll keep them behind in the down and distance and open up the opportunity to rush the passer on later downs. I'm looking at you, Pryor, Harris and Davis. Open field tackling needs to be on point.

Lastly, for some reason Brady has adapted his game to include extending plays by scrambling and moving outside the pocket. We need to pulverize him every time he does that to both keep him in the pocket and rough him up a little bit.

I don't even want to see Fitz's arm in the wind and rain. Sounds bad, man.

Idk man. There's a different feeling they have with Rex gone and the team we have now. Brandon Marshalls match-up is an absolute nightmare. Edelman will be held in check by Revis. We have the best running defense in the business. Ivory is a monster and we finally have a QB who is smart with the ball.

This is a different Jets team than the past and ran by a coaching staff that seems to know exactly what they're doing. The New England fans dont seem so sure anymore

I doubt they put Revis on Edelman full time, just because he's off the line and in motion constantly. Revis is at his best when he's lined face up with the receiver. Following Edelman across the field before most snaps and chasing him on cross routes is not what he does best.

I can see it when he lines up outside.

I am surprised to see some say that on Patriots forums, everyone calling for an easy W this weekend. I don't see that AT ALL on SonsofSamHorn's football section. If anything, I think most Patriots fans (both there and ones I've talked to) recognize this will be the toughest test of the season to date by a wide margin. I love NYJ +9.5, as I could easily see the Jets winning this outright. I truly believe the teams will split this season.

As for the "they can't stop the run" talk... that is both accurate, but also misleading. Accurate in terms of statistical numbers. Misleading in that this is often part of BB's "bend but don't break philosophy" over the years. He'd much rather a team gain 3-5 ypc and dink and dunk passes down the field. One reason is it causes more plays per drive, which causes more opportunities for an offensive mistake/turnover, versus risking giving up big plays. Another is that teams have relentlessly driven on the Pats D, but in the red zone, they button up a bit. BB is fine giving up FGs, given the offensive prowess his team has. So, once it gets inside the 15, the defense can bunch up to stop the run more effectively without giving up a ton in pass coverage. I think Belichick would be fine with someone running for 150yds, so long as that didn't translate to TDs.

I am amazed more teams don't adopt a similar philosophy defensively.

Never thought I'd see an opposing coach that pissed me off more than Shula but Belichick is that guy. Both of them hate(d) the Jets for different reasons and both of them have(had) a Hall of Fame QB to go along with that hate.

Buster Skrine will live in Edleman's hip pocket all game. Thats what they picked him up for. Skrine vs. Edleman all day long.

I think we'll see Revis on the outside against Amendola or whatever shithead receivers NEP have now. They'll get blanked but it won't matter. And Gronkowski will be double covered all game. Marcus Gilchrist will be involved in that, with possible help from Cromartie and god help us some LBs over the middle.

I think the offense is the key to any chance for a Jets win though. Brady will put up points. But NE wins with their bend but don't break defense just as much. If the Jets are settling for field goals all game they'll lose. I suspect they will. Only chance at winning is if they can finish drives and play with a bit of a lead.
