I don't like the fact that there coming off a bye week, but I like the fact there traveling from one coast to another, and that it's a 1 o'clock game, it will feel like 10:am to them. Revis on v.Jackson I like, going up vs. a non mobile qb I like. but a healthy gates, can hurt us, and so can r.mathews, our rush D hasn't been to good lately.
yeah, they are. Im hoping manusky will switch it up, when we blitz and play man we are much more effective. Against the pats, the chargers rushed 3 and 4 continually and played a zone coverage. Brady picked it apart.
This is from ESPN: San Diego Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates was limited in practice. He has missed the past three games with a nagging foot injury. The Chargers hope that he will be ready to play Sunday at the New York Jets. However, the fact that he didn’t practice fully shows he is not 100 percent. Yet, because Gates has been dealing with this injury for more than a year. Who knows when he will practice fully? The Chargers goal is to get him on the field on game days. Pro Bowl receiver Vincent Jackson (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday. The team is hopeful Jackson can play Sunday.
This is the type of game a playoff team wins. We match up pretty well against San Diego. This is where ground and pound was at its peak in the playoffs. The Chargers have some guys in the secondary that are good, but they're not elite. Their stats always look good, but the AFC West's quarterback play has been crappy for years. Gates might play, but he's far from 100%. Revis will be all over Jackson, and the rest of their WRs aren't that good. Rivers will take some shots with Floyd and Jackson, but we should have the corners to match up with that. This is going to be a huge test of our run defense. The run D has let us down a few times, and San Diego has the 2nd best run offense we've faced so far behind Oakland. Mathews is a talented back, and Tolbert is a good short-yardage guy. This is a difficult matchup for our underwhelming run D. San Diego has always kind of been a soft team for whatever reason. Even this year, they haven't been able to put away some bad teams like Denver and KC who were able to linger around, and even though they outplayed New England for a lot of that game, they couldn't get the win (sound familiar?). They really don't scare me a ton. Will this be a tough game? Absolutely. But they are more of a solid all-around team than anything else. Other than possibly their running game, we match up pretty well against them. At home, this is a game we should win. The spread (SD as a slight favorite) is correct, because they are the better team than us right now. They have a much better offense than we do, and our defense is only slightly better. And we've played like crap pretty much all year. And I'm really curious to see what it's like having an offense that doesn't have 4 three-and-outs to start the game again. That could happen again, but odds are, it won't. I hope.
Gates isnt healthy and probably wont be the whole season. He might play in this one but he isnt close to 100% and that foot problem ..plantar fisciitis just might end his career. Last game he played in was against NE and he was hurting then and was ineffective. Jackson is nursing a hammy. Dont know what % he will be at but i expect him to play. Hopefully for us, Mathews calf holds up as well. Fortunately for us, Rivers knows Cromarties weaknesses and personally, id run wide at him all day. Neither team is playing that great right now so i guess the team who limits the mistakes will take it.
It will interesting to see how this unfolds. The Jets getting off to a strong start on offense will be a major key to the Jets winning the game.
So far, the jets have lost to 3 good teams, squeaked by one good (but seriously flawed) team, and killed a couple of pathetic teams. This week will go a long way towards defining this Jets team IMO. They need to show they can handle a good team. I expect it to be close.
I think Aaron maybin will play a big role in this game in his limited snaps. as good as he is in the pocket, Rivers is a statue.....i think we'll see another strip sack from him
This is going to be a huge test of how our run D can hold up without Bryan Thomas. Westerman needs to step up vs the run. So does the d-line, so does everyone.
I love this match up for our secondary, Revis will be all over Jackson, and Cro will shadow the deep threat Floyd. I think the D will be just fine if they get any sort of pass rush , but the Offense is gunna have to show us something this weak. After week in and week out of just poor performance I don't seeing it get much better, but there is no way it can get any worse.... right?
That's what I'm hoping for. I think the secondary will be fine. Rivers will make some plays, but our secondary should hold up pretty well. Like I said, the run defense is the bigger issue. The Chargers can run the ball pretty well. Can we stop it? That will be a big question. Of course, it all will come down to our offense. If we play like we have pretty much all season, we're not going to win. We need to get better offensively.
