yup thats the one. completely legal too. the NFL rules are funny like that sometimes it's like how if you are going toward the sideline you only have to toe tap, but if you are going away you can't heel tap, the whole foot needs to come down.
Yea that's a great example of the difference between the two types of blocks. Good work. Hellacious block also.
The one I'm talking about was a McGovern false start followed by a Carter drop the next play (3rd down) that had a shot at a first down.
The sad thing is that Cobb I recall had nearly identical call against him in preseason. The showed in on Hard Knocks and Rodgers chastised Cobb for it. Now Lazard almost cost us the game with the same exact mistake. Gotta learn from preseason. Thank god we won, this was a huge mistake at the time. Instead of 1st and goal we are out of FG range. Need to be smarter than that.
yeah basically in 2019 the NFL did a study and 1/3rd of the concussions were caused on the type of block lazard did. it was seen alot on punt returns. the idea is the player isn't expecting it or seeing it. so for "player protection" they wrote up a rule to prevent it. They don't want defensless or unsuspecting players to take big hits. when you can't protect yourself is when your likely to get injured.
I figured this was a good place to put this....... But shout out to Tae Hayes and Craig James and to the coaching staff for getting these guys prepared to play. PHI has one of the top receiving corps in all the NFL. Hayes and James were signed to the PS on October 3rd. I think they played outstanding considering the circumstances.
Last year on Christmas Lazard himself had this block and it was cool. They called it the block of the year. He was fined later in the week for taunting though lol the nfl sucks
We should keep in front of us that we played arguably the best team in the NFL, with the most elusive, powerful hard to contain QB in the league, and with the top-rated D. So with the exception of the few bone head penalties, it would be unreasonable to assign anyone with average performance a dud rating. Kudos to Greg the leg. He and special teams are the unsung heroes every week.
I'm curious. If he didn't try to actively block him, and simply stood there, would he not have then been guilty of setting a pick, also a penalty? In any case, I agree with you that he hit the player above the waist and below the neck so while it was violent, it was legal. Another "fine" jobs by the anti-Jets refs.
Refs have been absolutely brutal this year from the games I’ve watched Very inconsistent Even in the Giants game last night…they call the flag for PI in the end zone, which it was, and then on the free play it’s PI or holding AGAIN, but they didn’t call it And then the NFL fines coaches if they complain about the refs It’s absolutely ridiculous…we’ll let the refs go however they want, but if they’re shit, you’re not allowed to say so. I think every single fucking play should be reviewable. Every one. It won’t slow the game down more because you’re still limiting the teams amount of challenges. And I get that some of them are subjective and the NFL may not want to contradict a ref’s subjective call (Bill Polian says this a lot on NLF Channel…he’s like “all you’re doing is replacing one ref’s subjective view with another ref’s subjective view, and the second guy isn’t on the field”) But still, some of these game changing calls have been total bullshit
What Polian is saying though is a fallacy. It implies that all refs have equal knowledge and ability and experience, but supposedly review officials have more experience, knowledge, and ability that regular game refs, so if the review officials decide to override a field official, supposedly it's because they have this additional expertise, and also they various camera angles, and slow motion to look at. All that said, it doesn't mean they can't make mistakes (unintentional or otherwise), but they should be able to make more accurate decisions.
the league is a joke right now -all the memorable QBs are retired/hurt -the refs can't get anything right. its just brutal -Betting is huge and the league can't get any punishments right, it damages their credibility -nearly every week there's a major injury somewhere where the ambulance has to come out
And ratings are through the roof. Unfortunately the NFL doesn’t have to care about any of the things ruining the fans experience.
The only thing that they absolutely need to make reviewable is roughing the passer and/or unnecessary roughness calls because they’re all usually bang-bang. The NFL would never allow it though. A lot of times they just use them as a get out of jail free card when they need to extend a drive for viewership in prime time or a marketable team is struggling. College is a much better product but they’re trying to ruin that too with NIL deals, transfer portal and changing the rules to a running clock. Although the transfer portal has definitely leveled the playing field a lot.
I dont think that's true actually. On average regular season TV ratings are down from say 10 years ago.
They’ve done an amazing job marketing and appealing to the casual fan. I grew up with several guys who could give a fuck about football but being invited to fantasy leagues and friends having extra tickets with tailgating, drinking, etc. has drawn them in. Look at what the draft has turned into. It used to be for football nerds and now it’s like a festival.
