the odds are enormously stacked against the Jets in this one. I expect them to get throttled and the shit house to go up in flames but if they somehow manage to win it could be a huge momentum swing that could save the season and Rex's job. There's my optimistic post for the month.
The season is going to go one of two ways. 1. San Diego was rock bottom and they rebound to be competitive and maybe win 1 or 2 of the next 2 games. 2. Complete spiraling down. I personally dont think they are as bad as they appeared against San Diego and in the past the Broncos game is the type of game that Rex would coach himself up to win only to have a huge letdown game against New England. I dont know if I have the confidence in that anymore, but Rex is very good at motivating the us against the world. If they can have a good offensive gameplan I dont think its out of hte question that it is a one possesion game at the end.
I want to see how they respond after last weeks debacle. If they play hard and fall short then fine. If they look unprepared and disinterested then we know how the season will play out. Then we're in 2-14, 3-13, 1-15 territory.
Great post. The only thing I'd add is that, to truly turn the season around, I think we'd have to win our next three and get to 4-4 at the bye (in other words, no let downs after shocking Denver - Even with no letdowns, I'm not sure we could beat the Pats in New England). I'd go so far as to say that if we ever pulled that off, we'd probably win the division. That tells you how unlikely I think that is. LOL. Ok, I'm done dreaming.
The problem is that, with four losses already, we have already used up our "moral victories" quota. We need to win. Unless people think we are sweeping the division, we just can't afford to lose any more games before the bye.
The season is over. I just want the guts to play with some pride. I don't want to see a mentally checked out team out there.
In my heart, I know you are right. I just can't get over the prospect that the season is over before Halloween. So depressing.
Our best chance to win. Stop the blitz packages on 3rd downs that haven' t been successful and allow our D players to match up against the Broncos O line etc without leaving receivers uncovered after Peyton Manning escapes the rush. Our D line can favorably match up against them so trust them to make the plays. If our weak point is the defensive backfield don't keep putting them a position to get beat and give up big plays on 3rd downs. Rex is over coaching which leads to being out coached. But I don't think it'll happen. Rex cares more about his D schemes even when they don't work than winning.
Manning needs 5 TD passes to tie Brett Favre's all time record. All I am hoping for is that they make him wait another week.
If the Jets win this game( possibility), will anybody have faith in the season? 2-4 going to New England, how would you guys feel? Too many people already penciling a win for Denver. You never know in football
We would need a 3 game winning streak to try to salvage this season, these next 2 games are essentially the season though, if we lose even one of them we're probably dead in the water.
That's what i mean. If they beat Denver and New England, what happens? Do people still want a high pick or playoffs?
Playoffs of course, if we win these next 2 games that can be a big confidence boost for the team and kind of like a shot of adrenaline, the schedule eases up a bit too.
I'm against tanking, always been, people pay a lot of money to go to the stadium and watch and shouldn't have to be subjected to shit play because of a fucking draft pick. Doesn't look like we have world class scouts anyway.
