Was watching Cooks and Matthews today wondering why we didn't address our offense with these young talented WR's. Then I remembered we only draft defense in the first rd.
I.think the Jets have a chance because Cutler is anything but stable. But if MM doesn't get some running backs and TE's involved, then we are screwed.
I used to believe 'ANY GIVEN SUNDAY' for nearly every team, but with the Jets, I stopped. They almost always find a creative way to lose. They show you how a team can implode from nearly insurmountable lead. Unless they can shed this stigma, they would be losing confidence themselves in no time.
I'm nervous mainly due to Jets secondary and their potent WR's Even if we do get a lead, between the bs NFL pass interference rules, and our bad secondary, they can make up points in a hurry- I can see a slow grinding 16-6 lead suddenly blowing into a 34-16 rout from 3 PI calls and 2 great end zone catches I want to be wrong
not like the jets are the only team to ever give up lead, not even THIS early in the year. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY (MONDAY?) applies to every team regardless of quality at any time, thats the point. I'm not gonna say the jets will always blow a lead after one loss, or off the reputation of rosters from previous years. All that matters is how they handle themselves next to their opponent THIS WEEK. This game can go anywhere, we don't know how well EITHER teams weaknesses will be exposed or be made irrelevant. But I'll tell you what is irrelevant; stigma's. They don't matter. Any given sunday.
Well yes if you take away our #1 receiver the receiving corps gets worse compared to others in the NFL with their #1 receiver.
Call me negative if you want but i think we gonna lose this game again , till the defense plays like a defense who has 6 first round picks in the last 5 years. We should be dominant at least like the bengals on defense with such a "supreme head coach on the defense side of the ball" and with the talent that we got on that side of the ball . Imo we need to look around the league our defense doesnt look dominant on the field compared to the average defense in the NFL.
people need to read this article: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/y...ush-defenses-of-the-jets-lions-and-cardinals/
Always appreciated your analysis and optimism so I hope you are correct. If Cutler gets outside of pocket and avoids front 7 rush with his receivers and our lack of good CBs well you know what will happen... Perhaps Jets win a shootout 30-27 (fingers crossed)
I read it but like most of Grantland's stuff that article is largely disappointing, full of itself and under researched. Anyone can look at the statistics and tell who the best rush defenses are. Then they can do some light research and tell who the best players on that defense are as well. That's basically all that the article does. "The Jets have a very good rush defense... " no shit. "That rush defense is good because of their defensive line" No shit. Why I thought the article was disappointing because they didn't take the analysis another step. Does having a stout rush defense really equate to winning games in today's NFL? Do the three teams in spotlight sacrifice passing defense for rush defense? How are they on 3rd downs? i.e. Does it matter on 3rd down that they are stuffing the run on 1st and 2nd? How much does their offenses factor in? i.e. Are teams just not bothering to run the ball because they are playing from behind or because they know they can take chances in the air on these teams? etc. etc.
Steelers have 4 or 5 first round picks on that defense, and they still have question. Played well last night though.
our biggest issue is now there is film out on us.... and last week in the second half we were greatly exposed. Greenbay showed you can block 7, send out 3, and still easily beat our covereage. teams are gonna go max protect on us to nuetralize our rush and just pick our corners apart. we really need our run game to be dominant to win on a weekly basis.
Don't worry about it Rex is the best defensive mind in the game. He just needs a franchise QB to magically develop under his nose.
