7. A 2-0 start will also continue to build the confidence of the team which goes a long way to aiding in success.... Great list JXC!
Ummm...I don't know about you but Bilal Powell is capable of carrying the load for a game...I'm NOT worried about our running game if Ivory needs to sit a game. You know, I don't know why people are surprised about injuries to Ivory...the guy is about as violent a runner sine Okoye and/or E. Campbell.
Mezz, I just hope Ivory doesn't wind up like E.Campbell or T. Dorsett or a lot of those guys that you don't hear about but suffer from a career of hitting and getting hit.
Why is Petty humming the Monday night theme song? He's not ready. Disgraceful job by the coaching staff. He needs to be sitting and listening to Fitzpatrick hum the theme song until next season at best.
I have some degree of confidence regarding how we match up with Indy on paper, but I never like playing a decent team coming off of a bad loss. I don't think Indy's roster is anything to write home about, but they still have the best player on the field at what is easily the most influential position and he is himself coming off of a relatively poor performance. This would be a huge win for us and I definitely think we are capable, but I can't say that I think it will actually happen.
I'm pretty sure the Jets have employees who can help with that sort of thing. I seem to remember Mr. Favre trying to make such an acquaintance
If Hilton does not play that would likely put Revis on Johnson. Johnson is a shadow of his former self and Revis would shut him down. Moncreif and Dorsett aren't going to tear things up and the run game will be shut down. I actually am thinking they hold them to 10 points, maybe 13. Jets on offense, Colts are hurting with the DBs, Fitz will have a decent game but the run game is really gonna put a hurting on them. I think Ivory, Powell and the rest lay 200 yards on the Colts, Ivory putting up 120-130 yards Powell add 65-75 and then another 20-25 from a couple of others. If they get a nice lead early enough maybe a little less coming from Ivory as they rest him and Powell picks up the slack. Jets win this one 34-10
Jets beat them 2 out of the last 3 there. That was 2009, 2010 and 2011, before that you go back to 2003 for the next most recent in Indy. I am feeling pretty positive about this match-up.
If my two cents are worth anything [they usually are not]: 1. Establishing the run game early is the way to go. Their DL is okay in general - but then Jets OL is pretty good too. It all boils down to who will tackle the RB in the second line, and Colts ILBs are pretty hopeless. We all bash DeMario for running around like headless chicken, but Colts ILBs are about 10 times worse than DeMario at his worst, and that would be a severe understatement. 2. Getting lead early would be also very important. Mere 3 points would be enough. 3. If 1 and 2 are established, then Fitzpatrick will have a pretty decent passing game as well. It all starts with #1, so that's where the game plan should focus.
This is an interesting game. I checked ESPN and foxsports and not a single one of their NFL pickers has the jets winning this game (something like 15 or so in total). I find that astonishing. The Jets are a very similar team to the Bills and can bring similar pressure, but have a better secondary. Moreover, it looks like the Colts 2,3 & 4 CBs are likely going to be out for this game (none of them have practiced this week yet) and Chan Gailey likes to run 3, 4 and 5 WR sets, with those guys out I don't know how they cover the Jets receivers with their 5th and 6th CBs and one of their practice squad CBs they just promoted (Vontae Davis can play, but he can only cover one guy). I also don't think they can pack the box to stop the jets run without letting the Jets go over the top a lot and giving up huge plays. My guess is that the Colts end up playing a lot of cover 2 and cover 3 zone defenses with the personnel they have available. If they blitz they run a huge risk of a big jets play with their CBs out there one on one. While I don't expect the Jets to abandon the run I think we'll see a lot more passing than against cleveland. In addition, as Hilton hasn't practiced either it looks like he's likely to be out too. Unless the jets totally lay an egg this game is theirs for the taking. I don't see how the Colts can stop the Jets offense and while I think even without Hilton they could score 20-25 points on the jets (especially at home in a domed stadium), the Jets could easily score 30 + points in this game even without lots of turnovers from the Colts.
I thought Fitzpatrick played well in week 1 but this is a way different spot for him, primetime game on the road against a contender. It's a spot he has not often been in, playing in relative obscurity at his various pit stops. I'm interested to see how he responds. His gunslinger mentality could be trouble in this game, as the Colts will be looking to force early turnovers and jump all over us. Just reading this thread, I feel that we might have a lot of very angry and disappointed fans come late Monday night. Hope I'm wrong.
"Disappointed"? OK, I get that. But "angry"? Everyone is picking Indy. Vegas has the Jets as 3.5+ to 1 underdogs. If a fan gets angry at a loss in a game 2 that features a whole new Jets offense, defense and coaching regime that person needs to get their head examined.
It's nice having a top G&P running game that will help keep Andy on the bench and help keep Colt safties at home in the box opening up passing lanes for Marshall and Decker & company. It's nice having a solid defense that on paper is capable of rushing Luck into bad throws, shutting down their RG, and smothering their WRs. It's nice having a pedestrian QB that has seen it all, doesn't panic, sees and takes what the Colt defense gives him, and can hand the ball off with the best of them. No reason why the Jets can't keep this close. Should be a good game.
T.Y. Hilton hasn't practiced yet this week, so even if he's a go he could be very limited and rusty. Just as importantly, 3 Colts cornerbacks missed practice all week, including Darius Butler. Vontae Davis on Marshall is a good matchup, but Decker could be running vs backups and Devin Smith will be up against 5th stringers in his pro debut. Given with the fact that the Colts probably have very limited preparation for his skill set, since there's no tape of him, I think Smith could be a monster X-factor in his debut. I'd love to see a couple chunk plays. Also, hopefully Robert Mathis waits another week for his return from Achilles.
