I'm surprised that his people haven't been talking to him about how to handle this collapse publicly. That's just a monumentally stupid thing for someone to say. For a guy who was as popular as anyone last year, it's remarkable how far his star has fallen (and not only in terms of quality of play, but also in terms of public perception).
