anyway, this NE team is, as usual, very good. They just went into Indy and outplayed the Colts, IMO.

I find it very unlikely that we can go into Massachusetts and win.

But in any case, I can enjoy them going down tonight, and Belichick coming away with egg on his face.

I never went to bed lol. I did lay down and keep the TV on and watched it. Thank God I didn't fully give up.

They usually allow a spike, although that one was a little overexuberant and you could see the ref react as it almost hit him.

The celebration penalties aren't very consistent, anyway.

Some assorted stuff that I wanted to post earlier, but couldn't:

Rodney Harrison needs to act like a professional.

Collinsworth called Leigh Bodden "an old warhorse". Bodden is 28.

Al Michaels: "Kaczur gives up 70 pounds to Mathis."

An important part of the comeback that went unmentioned as the pass interference that helped the Colts score quickly to cut the deficit to 6. What the announcers ignored was that not only was the call huge in terms of where it set the Colts up, but it stopped the clock. Had the Colts had a completion to the same spot (where they called the PI), they would've lost at least 15 seconds on the clock.

Gostkowski simply has a rocket launcher for a leg and is one of the top 5 all-around kickers in the NFL.

odd decision for New England to let the clock go to the 2 minute warning before the first half. It's not like there was too much time. I guess they were just focused on not allowing the Colts much time, rather than giving themselves the maximum amount of time to go for the endzone.

this game had another example of a selfish defensive player refusing to simply take a knee in the end zone after an end zone INT.

    About Green Bay/Dallas:

I didn't like that FOX treated the game as a regional game. It was decided with 6 minutes left, but they refused to switch away until the clock showed all zeroes, cheating everyone of a chance to see good action in San Diego or Arizona.

What an amazing brain fart by BB. On the one hand it makes these ridiculous Jets losses that much more painful, but on the other hand it's hard to see the Jets winning next week anyway.

The pattycheat fans are being unmerciful in their anger at Belly on their message boards. Can you imagine what the media will be saying this week?!! Belly will probably hide in his office & close the door...LOL

You can watch SNF legally for free online (NFL.com), and I think that applies to non-US residents as well.

posted after the Colts scored the GW TD:

[IMG] Do you mean next week's game?

While the talking heads on NBC made it about him not trusting his defense, I think it was him simply relying on their historical success against Indianapolis when they have 3rd or 4th and short. If you go back and look at all the 3rd and 4th and shorts (2 or less) by New England against Indy during the Belichick era, I bet their conversion rate is over 75%.

I was sure they'd convert it and end the game right there. They would have, too, had Faulk caught it cleanly.

So while normally the right call there is to punt, I didn't have a huge problem with it. Manning and co. had just marched right down the field on them in under two minutes and scored. If you punt to them, there's a pretty good chance (over 40%, maybe higher) that they do it again. If you convert the 4th and 2, which the Colts have almost never been able to stop against NE, the game is over. It boils down to what you think the likelihood of converting the 4th down is, vs. how much Indianapolis's chances of scoring a TD increase by giving them a shorter field.

When it went to fourth down, I figured he'd be conservative and punt, but I was seriously considering the possibility that going for it on 4th down was the right call. Coaches in general take the "safe" play by simply punting on most fourth and shorts, but studies have shown that those decisions hurt their teams. Of course, if they punt, they won't get slammed by the media and fans for it, while if they go for it and fail, they will.

The real head scratchers were, again, the needless timeouts. The last two timeouts they took made no sense. Besides, whoever was calling the timeouts had to be aware that the timeouts might be necessary at the end, especially when you're leaving yourself without the ability to challenge.

    scoreless in the second.

Green Bay avoided the first scoreless game at halftime of the season with a last second FG.

    Can this game do it?

Nice seeing all these former Jets making plays.

Also, Gruden is the man. Perhaps the biggest upgrade I have ever seen. (Kornheiser to Gruden)

Ravens almost in field goal range.

    2 minute warning.

    Still scoreless.

Flacco made an incredible play to escape a sack twice and completed one to Heap for 5.

But that led to 3rd and 9 and a punt.

Looks like this one will be scoreless entering halftime.
