I don't see the locker room, namely the veterans, getting behind that move. Especially since Geno Smith isn't well liked. If you are 2-2 and Fitzpatrick was decent you better hope Smith plays great right away or thats gonna piss off a lot of people there and Bowles would run the risk of losing the locker room.
You maybe right about him being a backup. The dumb mistakes he made are made by most young QB's. This coaching staff has seen something in him that makes them believe he can lead this team.
I agree. We need to be pretty terrible or eliminated for Geno to play. If Fitzy is hanging around .500 then I doubt Geno ever plays for us again. It'd be different if this regime drafted him and had allegiance to him. They don't. They won't let him define their tenure if their smart because they already let him essentially ruin the start to it.
you have to take a risk. whether it this year with geno, next year with a rookie or fitz again. Bowles isn't going to be here past year 4 unless he gets stability at qb.
Most young QB's are turnover machine. As for leader ship I guess Cam Newton not a leader also for getting into a fight with one of his teammates? I'm not saying Geno the next great QB but we will never know until he gets a fair chance. A lot of great QB's would had been cut from there team if there team only gave them 2 years.
I personally hope to never see him take the field again, probably my personal choice for least favorite Jet of all time.

What has been reported is that IK broke Geno's jaw. That is all that matters, the rest is hear say. IK was the instigator, he used violence. Another man can not force another man go punch them and break their jaw. It's a choice and a very poor choice by IK. None of what Smith did excuses his actions. Period. There is also nothing bring reported that makes me say "OMG Smith!! How could he do that?" He has some emotions, same emotions we've all displayed in one form or another. Big deal.
I don't buy it. You don't prepare Fitz for week 1 and give Geno zero snaps in preseason just to start Geno in week 1 again. That's not happening.
