Our OL is good. Colon is still functional and Carpenter looks like he's a perfect fit. We'll have a run game. Fitz's arm strength will improve as his broken leg continues to strengthen.

Fitz has received a gift from the gods in inheriting a starting job for one last hurrah as he nears the end of his career. It's his job to lose and he is not going to lose it to the likes of Geno Smith.

Regardless of what we think of Geno at this point, rushing him back too early and getting him injured for the whole year would be unfortunate. We did it to Pennington and Favre. Even if Bowles thinks Geno is the man it is not worth the risk to even think about starting him week one.

His jaw really didn't look that bad from the pic he posted and believe me I'm a combat sports fan, I have seen some messed up jaws.

The sooner he comes back, the better our depth will be. Fitz looked decent last night

I remember being in my 20s and I never hesitated throwing a punch at someone for getting in my face so I cant really sit here pointing fingers(no pun intended) in anyone's face.

The reality is, good or bad, we need to see Geno under center this year to find out where we are headed and if he is the future of this franchise.
Next year is the last year of his contract so it's important we evaluate him this season and see if a further investment is warranted.

There's much more to being a QB then being able to make all the throws, as we all know, and so far that is the only aspect of Geno's game that really doesn't come into question.
He still hasn't shown the maturity you'd like to see out of a guy that's been in the league 3 years.

The problem with Geno lies in the mental aspect of his game and to me that's something you can't really coach.

At some point a light needs to go off in this kids head and he needs to "get it".
The only way we are going to find out if anything's changed is to get him back under center.

Jaw shouldn't prevent him from practicing. If Derek Stepan can break his jaw and play playoff hockey a couple days after surgery, then Geno can surely practice

If Geno can be ready week 1, that would be a blessing.
Doesn't mean he should,or will start, but having him on the sidelines as the back up would still be better than anything we pull from the trash heap learning the playbook.

    Did he physically examine Geno?

Unless it's Geno's actual physician this is just speculation. By an expert, sure, but he has no idea about the extent of the injury or surgery.

It's like a doctor calling the FAN and diagnosing an injury.

    It's interesting but not dispositive.

Wow Geno 11-18 starting record. Not a good comparison. That being said I am happy for Geno but I just think he would have to over whelm his team mates and the fans to be accepted back. If he does great, we have a winner, but after everything that happened I doubt he can climb that mountain.

I agree and nobody has even mentioned the crowd yet. Can you imagine the response when he throws his first pick? They booed him in a damn scrimmage can you iumagine if the game actually counts and that was before the fight..hell they are mocking him at opposing stadiums as you saw last night..it will be really hard for him to ever get his job back.

Yup, also his jaw was not wired shut. Geno will be the starter at some point within the first 4 weeks of the season, bet.

Fitzpatrick is going to have to play himself out of the job for Geno to get a shot before the bye. The medical reasons are enough to keep Geno off the field until then and if the Jets aren't losing because of Fitzpatrick's play there's no reason to make a change.
If the Jets aren't winning come the bye then we might see a change because if they're going to lose they might as well lose with Geno as with anybody at this point.

Petty is too raw to put on the field and it's possible that's his ceiling. He certainly needs a year on the sidelines to adjust to the pace of the game.

I agree, if we beat the Browns there is no way Geno is starting week 2 against the Colts. And if we play tough against the Eagles and Fins?

    Not before the bye.

Going to be interesting to see who they try out this week and whether they sign one of them..Smith could be pushed to third.

There's nobody with that kind of talent out there right now. It's really dregs and as bad as Smith is he hasn't joined the dregs list yet. That's for when the Jets let him go.
