Happy Rosh Hashanah! Long running joke between my rabid Jets fan friend, Vinnie, and I is that the Jets season will be over by Yom Kippur. One year it fell on September 26th, and of course we were in hysterics. He texts me, "Guess what day Yom Kippur is this year?" "Let me look at the calendar." Needless to say I spit out my water. The Jets season death date has alternately also been moved to being over by St. Paddy's Day and the the fourth of July. Sometimes you just have to make your own entertainment to survive the pain. EDIT & P.S.: I just looked it up and this year Yom Kippur falls on September 18th (starts frantically texting Vinnie). He's gonna die. I hope I beat him to the punch! Wish me luck!
Wow we made it. I have my son tonight and my dad is coming over to watch the Jets. Me and my dad haven't missed a game together since 1996 (a few odd ones here and there when he was traveling). Excited to continue the tradition. Lets go baby!
I beat him! Here's the exchange: "Just putting you on notice that Yom Kippur is on September 18th this year." "Damn it! Haha! Well, I don't have big expectations this year, anyway. 16 game dress rehearsal to see if we have a legit QB. Evaluations start tonight. I've been pacing the last three days. The Bills look god awful. Season over for them by Rosh Hashanah. Can't say the Jets ever accomplished that." "47-3, lol." "Loved it. The Bills may have the number one pick next year when all is said and done. That being said, the Jets will split the series with them at best." "Hava Nagila." LMAO. Neither of us are Jewish, but I'm Jewish by osmosis in many ways because of my colorful upbringing. Know a little Hebrew and a heavy sprinkle of Yiddish words and phrases, love the traditional food (it's always about the food, ain't it?). It was just something Vinnie and his brother started ages ago, got passed on when we became fast friends years ago, and it lives!
As ever the kick off coincides with my bloody bedtime perfectly, go to bed 11:30-midnight and alarm goes off at 4:30am so will see the highlights in the morning but it isn't the same as being involved in the game thread, hopefully there will be plenty of 6pm bst games this season
Game thread is open now. http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/2018-nfl-season-week-1-jets-lions-mnf.91028/
Even with literally the worst possible outcome on that first pass (short of career ending injury I guess) for some crazy reason I feel perfectly fine and confident in Sam, not only for the long haul but for tonight. I bet this is a close game at worst.
Ok I hope Sam learned a valuable lesson about throwing the ball across the field and why it is fundamentally bad. The kid is looking ok otherwise and so far the Jets are looking ok. The defense may have another interception in the 2nd half.
The rush has been fierce? Is he talking about the Jets? They haven't said that about the Jets since Klecko/Gastineau/Salaam/Lyons
