Good observations by all in the thread. I was at the game and was really happy about energy in the crowd. The awesome Ivory - he is a truck and literally unstoppable. B Marshall - he's a game changer for this offense. Dominated Haden, sure set of hands. Marcus Williams - he's the real deal, folks. Offensive line - really opened up holes and gave Fitzpatrick a clean pocket. The good Leonard Williams - looked solid out there. Owusu - this guy can really play. It's amazing to think he didn't make the initial 53, yet is starting ahead of Kerley. The bad Cromartie - hard to rail on this guy after the injury but he got juked out on one play and continued his sluggish play from the offseason. I still think the cap we directed to him was overkill and would have been better used elsewhere. That said, hope his injury is OK. Kerley as a PR. Man he had so much space in front of him on one PR and went east/west. We can do better Cumberland - still not a starting NFL caliber TE. Can't believe we didn't invest more here in offseason. Demario Davis - got juked out of his shoes by manziel. I'm still not impressed. Overall, we played a well coached game. Fitzpatrick had a stronger arm than expected but his interception and that botched snap can't happen against better teams.
3rd down defense was atrocious ! I was also surprised at how little we pressured the QB with that murders row along the line. I love how we spread the ball around on offense and mixed in the pass with the run nicely. I still hate that every play on the goal line is a freakin run up the middle! Great to see TDs instead of FGs for a change!!!! Owusu was real impressive along with Williams. I wasn't all that impressed with Revis today, he looked pedestrian. I'm looking for improvement week to week.
- Marshall was very good today. He brought his elite veteran's pail and bailed out Fitz on at least 3 crucial throws, including the INT. - Our offensive line is a bully. - Our defense shuttered all their QBs and blanketed most of the field most of the game. Our offense benefited. - Our running game was exemplary today. Ivory remains a beast. - Fitz was average. McCown could have played with us today and done all of what Fitz did. We won but maybe that was because of all the turnovers our defense gave us.
we blew them out, but it was really ugly early. was huge mccown went out early(not wishing injury on anyone, but it helped us) i had 0 fear of losing once manziel went in. even after the long touchdown. i knew he wasnt going to play mistake free football. the fitzpatrick interception was cringeworthy. sanchez-esque. but he really bounced back well. wasnt shaken at all and made some huge throws. Marshall is a beast. its great to have a guy who is going to win all the 50-50 balls. and the stealing back of the interception was enormous. im super concerned about our defense. i think we can easily recover from the cromartie injury, but our linebackers looked horrible. a better qb makes a ton more plays in the passing game. they were super slow. and we got little pressure, even with heavy blitzes. once we got the lead and they became 1 dimensional we got better pressure, but i dont think we can count on maybe 21 point leads. the pass rush is a major concern for me since the linebackers and safties can not cover at all. we need more pressure. when we blitz, we HAVE to get there. love that we won, but i cant shake feeling like we would have lost if mccown hadnt gone down early
also, after that botched snap cleveland drove inside our 5. manziel had a WIDE open WR he missed badly that was an easy touchdown. could have been 14-7 instead of 10-7.
i dont think we win this game if geno plays. i think we'd have tunred it over 4 or 5 times and got blown out
not much pass rush, especially on heavy blitzes. horrible 3rd down defense most of the game. poor play from the linebackers in coverage and in support after the qb broke the pocket. even revis gave up some easy catches. alot to like, but some concerns that could be more costly vs better quarterbacks
he didnt play terrible. and given our qb play the past 4-5 seasons "not terrible" is an enormous upgrade. ill take a 95 QB rating and 2-1 td to int ratio. also, not mentioned, we can actually throw screen passes again! something geno struggled with and something sanchez was completely incapable of.
Last year's the jets were dead last in turnovers created with 13. They had 4 in the first game of the season. We'll see if it a new system or a product of who they played. The defense will only get better with Sheldon Richardson after the bye.
Agreed. The screen looked good in preseason and nearly worked for a TD today, but they got Marshall on a hold in the endzone which temporarily negated the score. What is intersting to note is that Fitzpatrick's completion percentage and QB rating today were nearly on par with his numbers last season. Fitz now has a winning record over his last 13 NFL starts and his previous team, the Texans, looked pretty poor today.
Pleasant surprise Bilal Powell played like a man possessed Unexpected disappointment Both Quarterbacks averaged over 7 yards per rush against our defense. We were not prepared to stop the QB sneak.
no it isnt. geno sucked at throwing screens. which is why we basically removed them from the playbook
our linebackers are just too weak a unit. qbs running are going to be an issue all season. especially when harris is on the field
We are talking about the JETS right? I'm confused about any complaining about this game. This was a friggin drubbing. I don't care how they started....who they played...who the Qb was (because the jets never have allowed second or even fourth rate qb's eat them up). That was a blowout. They did anything they wanted. Hell....I'm a real negative fan but that game was borderline boring. Not even the customary late td did we give up. Coples sucked. The pass rush sucked. Its the nfl. 24 unanswered points? Incredible job. Excellently coached. One the best adjustments by a JET O.C. in recent memory.
There were about 36 running plays to 24 passes. Mostly with Ivory and Powell. No problem with the main emphasis being with the run to set up the pass. But I can't see Ivory surviving the season with that kind of usage. He was belted around a lot today. I think they should activate Zac Stacy during the season and go with 3 running backs. And use Stacy to relieve Ivory. PS In this offense Stevan Ridley could be very productive.
I just hope Bowles keeps everybody levelheaded and focused....I was always a Rex Ryan guy but the one thing I always hated about him was after a big win we would act over confident during the week like we deserved a trophy and a parade then we end up getting blown out the following week
