For a team that was supposed to be a Super Bowl contender, not making the playoffs is pretty fucking sucky.
The 'classy Giant' punter could've just bit his lip......moving on, while Folk is average, TJ Conley's only average on his best day. For a defensive-oriented team looking to run a more lo-tech run heavy offense, I'd think field position consideration would carry even more weight than usual, especially with two potentially critical cold weather games with major playoff implications ending the regular season (Chargers, @ Buffalo). In spite of the Jets having had some great special teams coaches (Larry Pasquale, Mike Westoff) and good returners, when it comes to the kicking game and punters in particular, it seems they treat it like an afterthought plugging in one stop-gap punter after another.....over the hill NYG castoff Dave Jennings, over the hill Dan Stryzinski with the Jets for his last year in the league, followed by the likes of Toby Gowin, Ben Graham, Eric Wilbur and Reggie Hodges. When have Jets have had an above average punter long term? And fwiw, NE free agent punter/backup qb Tom Tupa was the only Jet punter to go to a Pro Bowl ('98). Conley's only free agent competition in place thus far is Travis Baltz (Univ. Maryland, part of the Colts' final cuts in '11). While they're at it, why not invite NYG castoff Matt Dodge. Nothing to lose .... and if nothing else, he's got a bigger leg than BJ Conley.
This grudge between Weatherford and the Jets is obviously borne of his bad experience playing here; time for him and Westy to get in the cage and settle this mano y mano. And yes, to offset the age difference, Westy can use his cane.
