Who called the empty backfield on the last INT? Why not had a RB in the backfield and let them think there is a remote chance of a running play?

I'm not sure Mangini is trying to be smarter than the game, but he is trying too hard to be Belichick. There's nothing wrong with trying to change up your looks and change things depending upon who you're playing this week, but even Belichick can't be the ultimate "game-plan specific" coach if he doesn't already have a solid team with all the basic tools in place.

I'm talking about a team with solid fundamentals and lots of practice with the basics. Then and only then can you go out and be the ultimate chameleon and have it work. Otherwise, you look like a fool out there, having your people trying to do something different for you each and every week, depending upon who they're facing. The result can be what we're seeing right now.... a team that looks in complete disarray.... seemingly prepared one week or for one quarter... kicking ass on Arizona and blowing them out, then when they make adjustments, we don't have a second "game-specific" plan the counterbalance that, and we don't have the solid basics to fall back on either.

The result? We barely squeek out wins over teams and coaches like Herm Edwrds (15-1 over his last 16 games) that couldn't beat the Linden High School Tigers on their worst day.

Well I thought when I saw how he flicks his wrist & the ball is gone he was a winner until I saw how confused he appears to be at the LOS which IMHO is what is holding him back. Maybe he has been brain washed by Shotty & Man to be very, very careful with the ball which is why he seems to look so confused at the LOS. Until he gets pass that trait he will not IMHO amount to anything in the league

I love it, still blaming Chad for shit even when he's gone. Clemens has had plenty of chances and he's the guy this regime drafted.

He holds sack records at one of the most prestigious football programs in the country. He did pretty good. He was projected to go in the top 10 well before the combine - calling him a combine workout warrior and saying he didn't have a great college career is ignorant.

I think that was part of the problem. How can you be a young Qb and be afraid to make Mistakes. The season was over when he came in anyway.

I think the guys are focusing so much on not making mistakes and all the different looks that it takes away from them using their talent to a degree.
I also agree that Mangini can not coach on the fly if the game plan does not go according to the script he has laid out from week to week. I we barely beat the Chiefs and lose to the Raiders what happens when we play good teams.

Right, so what was he afraid of? Once you're in there it's your show, look at the Cheifs' QB yesterday. His second game on a bad team with a 3rd string RB, how'd he do?

Being crucified by your coach, media and fans for throwing two picks in a game.
Mangini has his team scared to make mistakes and it stops them from making plays.

He had a good junior year, the other two were pedestrian. He ended up as the fifth best at sacks in OS history. I wouldn't drool over him that much. Also, a lot of GMs said he would go in the top 10 but wasn't worthy of a top 20 pick. He just picked the right year to come out and he is proving it week in and week out.

Things could be worse guys. 7 games into the 2008 season and the Jets already have as many wins as they did for the entire 2007 season.

Correction: Herm is 1-15 in his last 16 games.

Look what do you think would have happen to him if he was a 5th round draft pick instead of #6 overall pick & did not CONTRIBUTE 1 iota to his teams up to this point of the season?

Ouch! Does anyone even remember that KC was 4-3 and leading that division last year? The wheels came off after that.

That's New York, regardless of the coach. Parcells won here with both teams and you didn't want to go near him on the sidelines if you turned the ball over. Scared and smart are two different things.

Not so in Favre's case, IMO, and there's the double standard.

You can't browbeat everyone else on the team for making mistakes and then have them sit there and watch the "Hall of Famer" throwing mistake after mistake. Something's got to give with that.

Solution? Mangini needs to sit down with Favre and have a good long talk with him. I don't care if he is destined for the Hall of Fame. We've got to put a lid on throwing the ball away into double coverage when Coles isn't even close to catching the ball. Take chances, hell yes. But there's a time for that and a time to back off and wing it into the second row and let some kid go home with a free momento of the game.

Yes. I remember talking about that and some of us speculating as to how long it would take Edwards to dismantle a perfectly good football team.

I guess you're supposed to play to win the game.

Well, right now we are tied with Baltimore for the last wild card spot. Four out of our next five games will be tough. How we play the next 5 weeks will decide the season. It's not over yet. They just need to get their asses in gear.
