I have wanted to see Simms get a shot to QB for a long time, but if they wont get rid of Rex, whats the point? Rex will just keep running 50 times and force Simms to throw cold with the game on the line in the final two minutes and ruin another QB. Geno is not the answer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on some other team and becomes a viable backup. Simms too.
Don't care about Mariota. I'd rather win games. But actually Simms could give us our best chance to win. Aren't you going to miss Rex saying that. He even said it last night at his presser. He said running on every play gave the Jets their best chance to win. btw I'll see Mariotta on Friday night. I'll be at the Pac 12 Championship at Levi's Stadium.
I can't wait until he doesn't see the field and isn't back next year so I don't have to see one more Start Simms thread/post.
What does anyone expect to gain from starting Matt Simms? I do not understand the logic. I keep hearing the backward arguments of how bad Geno is, the gameplan, yada, yada... What about the player? What benefit do we have in starting Matt Simms, a guy that nobody looks at as someone that has starter potential? If any team thought he had starter potential in this league, he would have been scooped up by now. No other team in this league would want him, he only has a job because the Jets suck overall at prospect value, it has been made very clear considering how many players we have lost that nobody wanted to touch. That alone speaks volumes to the problems we face at this current time, playing Matt Simms only magnifies how inept this team really is right now.
I don't get this logic for not starting him. If he's not good enough to play a single NFL snap, why the fuck is he on the roster. The mere fact that he is on the roster indicates he can play. We've all seen him play ok in preseason--how can he be worse at reading blitzes than Geno? Give the guy a 1st half at least.
Simms wasn't even active last nite. Tells me they view Simms as the last resort instead of a viable option. Why is he on the Roster? Kinda like flood insurance. You don't ever want to use it, but its good to have if you live near water.
First of all the guy's been here for 3 years so how's about giving him the opp to play. How is that going to hurt anyone. We're 2-10! And who says he's going to be bad. If Parcells hadn't given Tony Romo the chance he's probably be out of football. And the kid has good bloodlines.
Can't we just start no QB? Seven O-lineman, a tight end and three RB's on every down. If we need to go to the air just have Tanner Purdum under center, spin around, and long snap to Cumberland. At least I know it won't go over his head...
Simms was NOT on the roster for the 12 season. Get your facts straight. And in fact he has played, both last season and, very very briefly, this season.
Simms signed with the Jets in 2012. He was cut and then re-signed in 2013. Except for one game this season he's been on the practice squad after being Geno's backup last year. For me: I always like to see a guy get a real chance. I don't like saying someone can't play unless like Geno and Mark they prove it on the field. Same goes for Timmy. I'm really not a Tebow fan but he got screwed. You know why? Because thanks to Rex and Sparano he never got a chance.
Kimberley A. Martin @KMart_LI Matt Simms question.... "I believe Matt can be a QB in this league, but right now, I feel really comfy w/ Geno Smith + Michael Vick." 51m Beat Writer / Columnist Don't think Simms is seeing the field this year barring Geno and Vick getting injured or Rex being fired
I'm not. But there's no point in playing a guy if you trust him so little that you would run the ball 75-80% of the time.
I think he deserves a few games, if he sucks then they don't bother resigning him next year . They know what they have in Geno and Vick, let Simms get a few games to see if he can stick around the league at least as a back up. Someone get a fucking billboard up.
Every team needs a back up QB. Why not see if Simms has enough talent to be a back up, if they keep him as back up next year but then 2 QBs go down wouldn't it be nice to know he may be at least able to hold the fort for a game or so if need be. If by some chance all that time on the bench has flipped a switch and he comes out and tears it up then it is a bonus. Don't take it as me saying that is what will happen because there is almost no chance it will but there have been a few UDFA QB who have done pretty well in the league.
May be true. Brady comes to mind as a failure in college but a total success in the pros. U just don't know..
