    I certainly don't want to waste a #3 pick

the prospect of counting on Chris Johnson to make things right is equally frightening

our best hope is that Macc is learning and also relying on the CS

I recall a story that Rex was heavily involved in the Shelden draft, where he physically tried to block Shelden and judge his reaction

I almost completely agree with your title. Just take out the Not from it and I would 100% agree.

I agree. I personally would rather they stay put and have a better chance at a blue chip EDGE

No one wants to waste the #3 pick. I think all want Mac to learn and succeed at drafting, as that's what's best, especially since for the most part he has handled contracts, the cap, and trades pretty well, and has made some good signings in FA.

I agree that the prospect of Chris Johnson making things right is equally frightening, but that's the position we're in. We have to hope that he isn't as naive/blind as Woody, and that if Mac blows this draft he will either decide for himself that Mac needs to go, or will listen to Gase and G.Williams and fire Mac.

Probably has been stated before, but with a REAL GM who knows talent, I would trade down for best package of picks. With Maccagnan as GM, not a chance. Maccagnan would trade down and select more Chris Hackenbergs, Devin Smiths, Ardarious Stewarts, Lo Mauldens, Chad Hansens, Darron Lees. etc. (and never a body for the OL). Not even McCagnan could screw up an obvious choice like Allen or Bosa, but a trade down with him making choices would greatly invite wasted picks. While discretion is the better part of valor, Mike Mccagnan's discretion on draft day is the better part of disaster.

It depends how far you trade down and how much "elite" talent is in the 1st round.

The Jets have absolutely bombed on several early 1st round picks. I would argue that the best draft pick the Jets ever made, the most game changing pick with the exception of Namath was Revis at pick 14. The second most impactful draft pick on D was John Abraham at pick 13 who we got in trade for Keyshawn. Granted Abraham had lots of injury and drinking problems. but on the field he was arguably the most game changing defender the Jets ever had.

With few exceptions we have done better 10 to 15 with game changers than 1 to 10.

It's foolish to think our draft board doesn't line up within one to two players with every NFL draft board through day 1. There's a lot of luck with how these guys will actually project. This isn't an exact science. Mac may well hit the jackpot in this draft.

really depends on the offer and the class and our needs

in this case since there are so many good edge rushers it may make sense to trade back. we are pretty much guaranteed a good edge rushing prospect as long as we stay in the top 15 (bosa, allen, ferell, burns, sweat) there are 5 of them in the top 20 players in this draft. mind you the other 3 aren't as good of prospects as bosa or allen, but doens't mean they won't have better careers or the offset of having them plus another isn't worth it. to put it liek this if you had the option of a top 5 player at their position or 2 top 10 players, which would you take?

We have a 4th round pick. It's a 5th round pick that we don't have.

There are definitely a few scenarios I would trade down for. Assuming Murray and Bosa go 1 and 2. I would trade down as far back as 8 for the right price. Ideally a few team fall in love with Haskins and bid up like say the Giants and Raiders. We get a real buzz going and have our choice of a trade Something like Giants #6, #37 (2nd), #95 (late 3rd)and a 2nd next year for our #3. That would be less than we gave up last year for the same move up. But what I really want to happen is that the Raiders block that trade by giving us the #4 and #35 to move up 1 spot. We would get the guy we would have taken at 3 the Raiders would get their QB still have 2 more 1st rounders. It wouldn't hurt them nearly as much as it would another team like it did us, last year. Plus it would screw the Giants. They would either 1 miss out, 2 have to reach for Lock at 6 or hope he falls to them at 17. My dream scenario but it will never happen

I think Bosa will be there at 3 and personally based on his injury history I would love to trade out if someone is in love with him.

Ah! the thrill and agony of a GM draft and the fans response. How will Mac be judged with the first pick.? Its a slippery slope.
Assume Mac picks Bosa or Allen with the third pick, and it turns out to be a bust. You bet Mac will be crucified. Yet 90+% of the board here are currently madly in love with both of them. At the end of the day is performance on the field. So quite frankly the initial assessment by this board and the "so called experts" will really not mean much of anything. You could be happy and turns out to be a bust, or you could be unhappy and turns out to be a blessing, in which case the haters response will be. "Mac got lucky with the third pick and it fell to him"
Of course, I would much rather be unhappy and then pleasantly surprised, as opposed to thrilled with the pick and then big time disappointed. But I will probably bitch either way in some fashion. Cant wait

There is always an element of luck in the draft regardless of where one is picking. Teams draw up draft boards of players they like. I'm sure that every GM every year experiences having players they really coveted being taken by another team before they had a chance to draft them. So luck is definitely involved. What would you call Sam falling to #3 last year? Yes it was stupidity on Gettleman's part to not take Sam and instead take Barkley, but Mac was lucky that Gettleman was stupid and Sam fell to #3, otherwise he'd have been looking at taking either Rosen or Allen and things wouldn't look nearly so rosy here. Darron Lee is really the only 1st round pick that Mac has taken that wasn't the consensus BPA in the draft. Williams was and aside from the QBs last year, Adams was. Another team easily could have taken either Williams or Adams, and probably should have. Mac was lucky that both fell to him. Now I give him credit for taking them and not passing on them like some other GMs did, but he was still lucky they were there in the first place.

I hope that F/Agency has shown that Mac has now learned to listen to his coaches. I think that Gase and Williams will let him know who they want in no uncertain terms and that Mac will actual start listening to his coaches and they will all agree on the pick.

I think that was one of the problem with Bowles, he wouldn't say to Mac which players he actually wanted, so Mac was left to "guess" which players were best for the team. Not the way to do things, the coaches have to be involved a lot, as only they know which players will fit their systems.

Actually if the Jets were competent, they would have a VP/Pres. of Football Ops who would lay out a blueprint of what this team should look like, and hire people that support that vision. Then, when it came time to sign FAs. make trades, and draft the players acquired would fit the blueprint (even if they weren't the BPA). That's how perennial winners do it.

Or they could continue their SOJs formula and keep stumbling in the dark.

    We shouldn't trade back.

Abe was our last game changing outside pass rusher. We failed on Gholston but at least we tried. And it's time to try again.

Now that we have a Franchise QB to build around in Darnold there is no other better time to land a monster outside pass rusher, than now. The cream of the crop will be there @ 3.

I've always loved Bosa. We all have. And would be excited as I was for Jamal Adams if we were to draft him. But I highly doubt he gets past San Francisco.

Josh Allen is someone I can't pass up on either. The more I've researched the more I want him a Jet under a Williams led defense. An SEC pass rushing nightmare is what he is. Just broke the SEC All-Time conference record for most single season sacks. That's nuts considering the fact the SEC is known for Defense, Defense and more defense but yet this Kentucky kid just set conference record for sacks as an outside pass rushing phenom. We'd be fools to pass on him. He looked awesome at the combine too. Heck of a LB in coverage as well. Super smart X's and O's player. Scheme wise he has the talent to line up everywhere from 3-4 OLB, 4-3 DE, dropping back into zone coverage he can do it all. We already have Jamal Adams roaming our entire defense adding another SEC stud in Josh Allen who can also roam our defense could be really fun to watch.

Josh Allen lined up right over Leonard Williams. Jamal Adams roaming. C.J Mosley thumping. If only we had Revis forget about it nonetheless Bosa or Allen it is.

    Leonard Williams.
    Jamal Adams.
    Sam Darnold.
    Nick Bosa/Josh Allen.

    Stay put.

Just keep in mind that John Abraham was drafted 13th overall. You can find great players throughout the draft. This draft class is loaded with edge players and there is nothing that says the Jets can't trade back AND still land a very good pass rusher.

It isn't as simple as, "If the Jets stay at 3 they are gonna hit on a premier pass rusher."

In the 2000 draft class, the Jets drafted 2 pass rushers at 12 and 13. If the Jets trade back, this allows them to potentially double dip into the position like they did that year. Just something to keep in mind.

This discussion is moot if teams aren't interested in the 3rd pick which may well end up being the case.

The closer we get the more I think the Jets HAVE to trade down. For one thing we need all the picks we can get. The main thing though is I have cooled considerably on Josh Allen and would prefer not to draft another 3/4 DE in Q. Williams who I almost feel like the Jets have to draft if they stay at 3 as he is 1 of the 2 elite prospects in the draft.

I think the Jets are highly motivated to move down. I don’t see anyone moving up for a QB but can see many teams wanting to move up for Williams or White.

We could draft the No. 1 pick on every draft board and if it's a bust Mac will lose his job. That's the nature of the business. Mangini who arguably had 2 great back to back drafts was fired for Gholston and Favre injuring his shoulder.

Thanks Biggs. Was Mangini actually responsible for the Draft or was it Tanny?
