Glad to have him on-board. Unlike what "some" people will tell you on this board, it is always good to have players like Chatham on the roster.
You'd better hope that you don't see him at linebacker or it says that the year isn't going well. As a Patriots fan, whenever I saw Chatham out on the field trying to play linebacker I'd say, "Oh man--we're screwed. Who got hurt?"
Very well put. It's not the spectacular signing everyone here is yearning for, but it shows that our FO is concerned about adding depth and experience to the team, even if it's not through a household name.
Do you realize that everything you just said about Chatham applied to Vrabel? He too was mostly a special teamer for the Steelers that Bill Cowher didn't feel would ever be an every down linebacker. Pittsburgh fans didn't think they'd miss Vrabel either.....
He's GOTTA be good if someone made an avatar. Where exactly were the Lance Lagree avatars last season?
Name me the last team that won a SB by making a spectacular signing? Last year, the Raiders were the darlings of March and they won 4 games. The year before it was Buffalo and Washington and they had about 12 wins between them. Overpaying for free agents hasn't paid off since Reggie White. How about we worry about building a championship team and getting on the back page of the paper in January rather than getting on the back page in March.
Keep in mind, he was mainly used on ST, but always played at 110%. Great character guy/locker room guy. When he did play on the D, he played well. Obviously he never won starting time outside of injuries, but when he got on the field our play never suffered. Overall, sad to see him go, but it is a chance for him to start. He'll always be a Patriot.
Not sure if you can see this link if you are not a member, but I made a ton of these avatars for the Pats. *edit* Nevermind, you can't.
