This was a game the players were up for. I give Rex that. We came to fight and it felt like for the most part we played beyond our talent level. But consistent bad coaching cost us the game. The game was riddled with sloppy coaching decisions and preparation. From start to finish. I am not going to list all of them because I don’t remember them all ATM but the entire game had me questioning why Rex (and others) were making some of these calls. The obvious one was the onside kick. What a monumentally terrible time to try that. We just pull within one score. Our defense has started stepping up. Time is not an issue at all…and we try and onside kick. That’s not aggressive - that’s stupid.
I have to completely and utterly disagree. Coaching kept us in this game. Poor execution lost us the game. One quick example is a play action pass by tebow out of the wild cat to a deep receiver who has his man beat, and he fails to catch a ball that would probably result in a TD. And the onside kick was a great idea. People only see what happened, not what could have happened and the risk which was taken. If we had recovered, which we should have because we had it IN OUR HANDS, people would be praising rex.
The Jets lost because they had far less talent on the field than the Texans last night. The fact that they were even in that game is a credit to the coaching staff. The onsides kick attempt was a great call. The defense was gassed, we were outmatched on offense and defense but clearly had the better special teams unit.
Schillenz was the first to the ball. If he holds on to it we are all saying what a brilliant move this morning. Bitching in hindsight always makes one look smart.
the players on the field lost the game last night. plain and simple. despite some boneheaded calls by Sporano, he also called some very good plays that should have put points on the board.
I agree with the onsides kick criticism, stupid call, McKnight had a huge run back, defense was stepping up, it's not even the 4th, kick it deep, trust your defense and hopefully get good field position to line up a FG at worst and pull within 3. Burning the timeouts was of course ridiculous. Going for it twice on fourth down in our own territory was of course very dumb just lucky they converted both (both times went 3 and out immediately afterwards). Seems moronic to not use Tebow for the QB sneak, everyone knew it was coming, why use sanchez instead of Tebow?
That's not true I think going for it on 4th down deep in our own territory is idicotic and a great way to let the game get completely out of hand. Just because something works out doesn't make it a good call. The onsides after McKnights run back and the defense starting to click was a bad call.
The onside kick call was fine. Caught the Texans off guard, Schilens SHOULD have had it, and it was perfectly executed otherwise. Bill Barnwell Tweeted: "Great onside kick attempt by Jets, even though it didn't work. Right time for it, well-executed by Folk, had numbers to recover." He's pretty good with numbers...
The opening drive of the game showed how unprepared Ryan was - Houston obviously saw something in the films, and ran a number of mis-direction plays which ate up huge yardage. The Jets didnt adjust, and it was an easy drive for a score. After that, Houston saw no need for further trickery, as they easily shredded the Jet D on the ground, and controlled the game from there. Ryan WAS outcoached, and failed to adjust. Its becomming an old story.
Ok people. During the flow of the game once you get momentum you don’t give it right back. That’s how losers play. We pulled within one score. Our defense was stepping up. There was plenty of time left. The game was becoming competitive. Trying a very low percentage play in this situation is stupid. Completely stupid! It’s a desperate move by an amateur. Especially at home. What did we get out of our low chance gamble. The defense defending a short field and going down by two score again. Now contrast that over what we would have gained? Maybe a FG drive? We got desperate way too early. We beat ourselves on this play. We pinned our hopes of winning on a frigging onside kick! Changed the entire complexion of the second half.
Did you watch the game? Did you see the opening drive? Did you see Foster running up and down the field? Maybe I dreamed all that.
Right, 'cause not stopping one of the best offenses in the league can only be attributed to bad coaching.
And yet we were down 1 score with possession of the ball. Also Watt made a great play to tip the ball for the pick and made another tip that stopped an easy TD.
Ummm a surprise onside kick is not a low percentage play. They succeed more often than they fail. Teams should do them more often if they want to win more.
Put the crack pipe down bro. BTW it wasn't much of a surprise. Even the announcer was mentioning the possibility.
Exactly, they were ready for it, the risk vs reward is just not there, you can't spot the other team field position like that for at best a 50/50 and more likely a 20/80
