Yeah, it was so devestatating that 6 weeks later the Jets went up to NE in a playoff game and KO'd Tom Brady and made him look like Sanchez did against Miami.
Seeing as John Abraham was injured more so than he was healthy, and when he was healthy it was usually during down seasons, I don't think I care too much. He was a one trick pony and the fact they landed Nick Mangold for him makes me care even less about his departure.
First of all, you are misinterpreting my original post. I didn't say the roster didn't have liabilities..I was referring more to the types of players the team seems to target specifically in the draft. Jets appear to put a premium on size, lack of weaknesses(or liabilities) & potential. They like well rounded players. Sometimes when you go that route you get NFL ready guys w/ staying power..but lack that dynamic big play ability. That was my point. Secondly, I wholeheartedly disagree w/ you on MANY of the aspects you have called attention to. 1. Currently the LB corps is a weakness. I agree. They have gotten old & slow. But Pace/Harris/Scott/Thomas wasn't a strength as early as 2 years ago? That's insane. Remove Revis from the discussion & that LB Corps was the main reason the D has such success early in Rex's D. They were tough, smart & physical. Maybe not the greatest in coverage but a damn fine & mean northeastern type group. 2. The OL has indeed regressed but you are again going to far too extremes. It's an average unit across the board. At one time, it may have been the best unit in the NFL..now it's barely a strength. They do give Sanchez alot more time than given credit..but the run blocking is inconsistent ?& they struggle picking up blitzes. The depth behind the starting 5 is actually pretty good. Ducasse despite popular notion is arguably the best run blocker on the team & his pass blocking is at least adequate. He should be starting in front of Slauson. Shaluderoff hasn't gotten a chance to show his skills but after watching him closely in TC he seems on par w/ Robert Turner.Smith is about average as it goes for back-up tackles. O-line depth is something the Jets got right this offseason. Does the starting 5 need upgrading? 100% yes. But this unit is far from a liability. 3. I've said it once & I'll say it again: Kyle Wilson was projected, drafted & has proven to BE a # 2 corner. He is what they thought he would be on draft day!Does he give up completions? Yes.But so does EVERY #2 corner in the NFL. And in a normal season he's our #3. That means most teams have a #1,#2 & #3 corner..the Jets have 2 #1's & a #2! Secondary is the strength of this team. You mention safeties getting old..Don't Bush/Allen get accounted for? Both have quietly contributed this season & were good college players?? Who's to say landry isn't re-signed & one of those rookies steps up & replaces Bell? 4. I think it's pretty clear at this stage that the Jets wanted to completely rebuild that WR corps. They put alot of pressure on Holmes to carry that group while the others found their way. When you look at it..had Holmes stayed healthy & produced( a big if) it may have worked out. We've seen both Hill & Kerley have some pretty good outings. They are just struggling w/ some consistency. This is a position where the short term is definitely compromised but once Hill & Kerley round out their talent, you can build a pretty good corps around them. 5. The Explosion vs. all weather point: I'm again being misinterpreted. I agree w. what you are saying. There are plenty of other cold weather teams who are BUILT for the cold weather who have explosion throughout their roster. I think the Jets put an overemphasis on physique/size & don't put enough stock into big play ability & skill. That was my entire point.
Next time, before you click "submit reply", I'd highly recommend you read over posts you plan on quoting. Just to help you out in this particular instance, I've decided to quote both my post & your attempted rebuttal. ==== /spoiler . . The main idea of my post was an attempt to tell one poster I agreed with one of his theories on why Rex blitz strategies have changed over time.
Yanno what B? I completely forgot about The Ghost.. Totally forgot about him.. absolutely forgot about him...Who were we talking about again?
