I like this post. I think, too, that there is the fact that the Jets pick sixth in each of the first several rounds. So, there's talent to be picked, for sure. Not just in Round One, but I'm excited about the second and third rounds too.

Definitely. Our 2nd round pick is #38 overall- that's almost like a late 1st round pick. Just 6 spots after #32.

One great draft can start changing the tide. And we also have some Idzik guys who were injured all year, maybe Milliner or McDougle ends up contributing.

The key is, we can't afford to make big mistakes here again. If we draft poorly here, and especially if we draft a QB early and he sucks, the Jets will be screwed.

I feel you. Maybe they will. I'd be happy with ONE of the CBs. I think they found a credible slot corner in Adams. Shit, the Jets aren't THAT bad, talent wise. If Idzik had made only a few of the available moves, he'd still have a job.

For those who want to be a more offensive oriented team, OT is exactly where they should be looking (outside of QB).
it took the Cowboys ages to figure that one out, and to stop chasing the flash.

To get the most out of a OT pick though, he has to project well at both LT and RT.
immediate upgrade over Breno (who has been terrible.. a glaring need imo), and eventual replacement for Brick (which could come as soon as 2016 due to his contract number, although i hope he stays).

all that said, i also do believe in BPA and getting the cleanest prospect possible with a pick this high.
Cooper certainly fits that bill, if he were to last that long (i don't think he will).

I think Brick can still play, but he is past his prime and is in decline now. His declined level is still solid, and he does not really get injured.

Like you said, we will need a replacement there longer term. Can't let a first round OT ride the bench for his rookie year, so he will have to be able to take Breno's job immediately. Maybe keep Breno as a backup, or just cut him from the team.

It could work, but I think we also need better guard play. Colon is a penalty machine, but Aboushi might be okay.

Ivory has run very well, but gets almost all his yards after contact. If he had actual holes to run through, he could be ridiculously good. A great OT could help out a lot in that regard.

As an aside- I think Nick Mangold is going to make it to the Hall of Fame.

Amari Cooper is Mr. Reliable, dude is a master route runner with hands of glue.

Hope he has a mediocre game coming up...I doubt it

Btw, if there is a guy that Cleveland wants real bad...would you trade #6 to them for #12 and #19?

I think you gotta just because of the depth at receiver. I want Amari Cooper, but it wouldn't be a problem to find another talented receiver in this draft.

Depends who is available at 6 and who is projected to be available in those spots but, all things being equal, yeah I do that trade.

It has been known to draft an OT and have him play inside for a while. IMO, need to upgrade either Colon and/or Giacomini somehow, some way!!

Interesting. I thought the techniques were just too different - I know that tackle is considered harder to play, and that being a guard has been compared to wrestling in a telephone booth.

Colon is a free agent and I really don't see him coming back. He seems like a really nice guy, but that doesn't really count for anything. Giacco, ugh. He's been below-average, and it'd be nice to have an upgrade there.

I'd be fine with a great O-lineman, but he's gotta be great. The o-line is definitely an area where the team is getting a bit old, and we need some very good younger guys to step in as we have not had much luck in developing them lately.

I thought some of the concerns of these top tackles is whether or not they will be capable of ever playing LT at the next level.

I can't see any GM getting on board with drafting a player who will project as a RT at best with the #6 pick.

I think it's common for an OT to go to OG at the twilight of a career and I think that the OT requires more athleticism because you're playing in space more. But I also heard that Austin Howard is actually playing OG for the Raiders (could be wrong there).

But I agree, any OL drafted in the first round needs to be excellent, not just 'meh'.

Of course. If we can't get Winston or Cooper a trade down is ideal. Could pick up a linemen and Parker or Strong.

With Fsu lost today (a little bit of fault to Jameis but it was a team effort) all we need is one Jameis scandal over the next months and we can deff get Jameis in the draft. James threw for more yards than Mariota amd he was playing against the tougher defense. He will be a great player and can sit behind Geno for a couple seasons because he is extremely young. In 4-5 years Jameis will without a doubt be an above average QB

Instantly Starting rookie Qbs is one of the worst results of the recent Qb success stories. Sitting for a year isn't the worst thing in the world; in fact, both Mariota and Winston could develop tremendously if they sat for a year behind an even sub-par Qb like Geno.

Get rid of him. This is his make or break year with us. He has all of these starts around 30. So why toss out all of that experience for nothing. It could be he finally knows how to be a pro Qb. No starting job. And no Jameis.

If both Mariotta and Winston are gone when we pick I think we should go after Amari Cooper. We would have the best receivers in the league if we got him. But without a qb it wouldn't matter as we saw with cutler this year. He had Marshall and Jeffery and still couldn't make anything happen.
