Moore is a problem too. He looked slow & weak in TC. The Jets can survive this season & still be productive on offense w/ average pass pro if they run block well. I think they could survive a younger duo of Vlad/Howard if they needed to.Bpth can produce in the running game,,Vlad is pretty solid at this point & Howard has at least shown SOME ability to pass protect.
He has been very good at times but I can't explain why he has refused to address the OL. IMO that is the most important unit on the team. WE had the luxury of having a pretty good OL in Ryan's first year so we wasted a pick on a project that may never be a starter outside of injury. I don't know why you draft a project in the 2nd round when you have the potential to grab a better, polished non project in the same spot. Round 4 or 5 I wouldn't have an issue but I hated the Duccasse pick then and I hate it now. That one draft pick has set the OL back years. For all we know he has, maybe he just isn't that good. He was also injured so obviously that doesn't help. He never should have been brought back as the starter. He had no record of being a starter previous to last season, he was in his 8th year when he became a full time starter. That alone says stop gap but the fact that he was given another contract and we failed to draft another guy or sign somebody shows the FO either truly was confident in his abilities or they just didn't put the work in to find a replacement. Until one of those things are done we are stuck with Hunter and we have to accept that we are going to suck as long as he is protecting Sanchez.
I usually don't get worked up in preseason games, but I was screaming at my TV last night. that was ridiculous.
i agree, as much as want to focus on WFH it looks like to me that the problem is w/that entire side of the line. Moore is 33 and looks slow & weak to me and he is unable to slide to help WFH which makes WFH look even worse than he would if the RG was quicker and stronger.
I say trade a high round pick for a proven tackle -- it's better than flushing a season over a glaring weakness.
Sanchez is a scared bitch out there with Hunter on the OL...Whats up with our LT. Damn this team already is abysmal on offense, with a crapshoot offensive line again I expect us to win maybe 5 games
Here's to hoping Mike T and Rex make some changes fast. It's clear that this team is only going as far as the offensive line takes them. The weakest unit of the team is the offense specifically hunter. Teams will continue to just throw their best past rushers at him and he will continue to fail. It's obvious to me that Tanny and Rex know hunter is a problem. They tried to get Otah but he couldn't pass a physical. So i fully expect him to be replaced before week 1 of the season. If he's not then Tanny should be fired. I've been a supporter of tanny but hunters contract serves no purpose. He's a backup. He needs to search for a stop gap RT or trade some draft picks to get a RT from another team thats a quality starter.
I'm incredibly concerned the Jets are going to place unfounded and blind faith in Hunter. This FO and staff have demonstrated they will not admit they are wrong. I really hope I'm wrong, because I truly believe our season hinges on the RT position. It's crazy to say, but we are so inept there that we have no chance of success with what we've currently got planned. If Tanny and Company don't make something happen, and fast, make no mistake that we will have a new GM next season.
Any team that has a young, starter quality tackle wants to keep him. Teams want at least 3 guys that can start at tackle so if a starter goes down your season isn't fucked. If you want to trade a high round pick for a guy that is not young or not that good, I'd say that kind of thinking is what got you guys in this mess in the first place. I think you guys' best bet is to wait till cuts and see if you get lucky to find a serviceable player in there
if they can't admit they're wrong then fire both. I'm a fan of this team and as much as I love rex if he can't make decisions that clearly need to be made he will need to leave. We have the ability to do some damage in the NFL but not when our qb gets sacked 4 times a game. Sanchez needs an elite offensive line to be a good qb and once woody retired and hunter stepped in we saw that he cannot be what we all want him to be.
Exactly. I feel bad for him, management needs to put him in a position to succeed which is on the bench. It was obvious he couldn't cut it, but I doubt it is a lack of effort.
Hunter must be a hated guy in the locker room...He is as bad as that guy who replaced Mangold for a game last year at center. WE ARE GOING TO GET BEATEN DOWN, my body is ready.
When the sacks are coming from one side and one guy. Its that guy Rex. Time to stop babying these guys and hold them accountable. But in Hunter case time to ship him out. Let him go now and give him opportunity to find another team (yeah right). But if the next guy is standing upright he will be a huge improvement on Hunter.
This is why I'm hoping Vlad keeps training as a guard & just slips into RG next season. It seem like the position best suited for his strengths (strong as heck & pushes & not so quick laterally). Think it's best for the Jets in the long run. Unfortunately, it also means Sanchez/Tebow/3rd Stringer will be throwing all their passes while rolling left this season.
