Speaking of bounty, I heard Sanchez is offering 10k for someone to take out Hunter at practice this week. The move has been approved by Roger Goodell.

I would have had Hunter running gassers after the game. You know he would have the energy for it with all the standing around he did. Also, I blame Sparano for not sending a TE over there more often to give him help.

Hunter sucks, as does Conely and McKnight.

good post bradway, i was trying to say this earlier and didnt put it very well. while wayne hunter played bad he is not the only problem. however it appears that the focus is directly on him right now. and once that focus is on someone around here we will hear about it endlessly.

he got beat like a ragdoll inside, it happens. we see guys get beaten like that every week. we also see help given to a tackle on an island who is completely overmatched. the poor bastard was trying to get outside so sanchez didnt get blasted at full speed. he had bad footwork and got thrown. he did at least attempt to come back and get him. and had the LT forced his guy a little further up field and sanchez didnt need to step up 2 steps he may just may have gotten a pass off.

it was just bad all around. bad plan to leave him out there for a half of football. bad execution by ot.

but of course lets all focus on how the one guy sucks and he is the only reason the team looked terrible yesterday and hasnt scored a td yet this preseason.

i wonder how that schottenheimer guy is doing out there in st louis...

i havent called for tannys job to this point, but to be honest if WFH costs the Jets this season Tanny should be fired immediately.

Yeah I'm starting to get to that point too. It's getting harder and harder to defend him, especially since I am 100% convinced that the only reason Bobby Massie (who may be starting at RT for Arizona as a rookie) is not on this team is because Tanny didn't want to deal with his agent (same as Revis).

Didn't address this in the draft, didn't address it in free agency. And this has been our most obvious problem for a year now.

    yup...

all in all im actually happy with the direction of the team (realize i seem to be in the minority).

but even with that direction its unfathomable that the jets didn't address RT in the offseason either via draft or FA. Simply makes no sense. And if it handcuffs this team, to me, it's a fireable offense.

tannenbaum is definitely to blame here too. rex maybe as well.

they knew what they had yet they werent able to do anything to solidify the OL.

the bigger problem is that there is NOBODY behind him. which points to the years of getting the first team really strong and hte defense really strong but not putting as much emphasis onto the backups and bringing in guys who can be worked in.

i really want to see a Sparano PC...I feel like he'll be more forthright about Hunter and let us know where things are at.

    Rex's PC's drive me crazy.

"First off, you've gotta give ______ a ton of credit. They played a heck of a ball game...As for us, our defense played great, but obviously we've got to protect the QB. Blah blah blah blah"

Heh a lot of Jets fans don't like how Rex praises the other teams so much and a lot of non Jets fans think he trashes other teams left and right because they look at headlines.

Rex won't call out a player through the media. At least I didn't think he would but he made comments about Kerley. I don't think they are saying anything about Hunter because IF they don't find anyone to replace him, then how would it look the guy your OC or HC said is a big problem remained on the team?

I dont think he should put 1 player on blast....But I'd like to see him express frustration with the unit. I think it would go a long way toward lighting a fire under them.

you can call out a player without naming them by name.

The offense was beat by blitzes last week where we had issues in protection from the TE, RB and QB position. This week the problem was different. The RT got absolutely obliterated on a regular basis.

I was hoping to see the protection issues from last week corrected as they were mostly mental. The TE position maybe not so much, but you can pickup a blocking TE off the scrap heap fairly easily. A starting RT, not so much. Unfortunately there was no chance to evaluate those things because the RT was like a kill switch on the entire O.

Obviously our WR position isn't going to show it's true colors when 75% of the top 4 receivers are riding exercise bikes.

Unless someone is brought in I see no reasonable and feasible reason for Austin Howard not to be the starting RT come week 1.

    This

While Hunter sucks he doesn't suck on purpose. He just isn't good enough to be a starting RT in the NFL. I kind of feel bad for the guy. He's overmatched on a weekly basis and because the FO refused to address OL depth or finding a potential long term starter the last few years leaves this guy out there to get embarrassed on a weekly basis. It also will lead to either A) Sanchez getting injured again or B ) a splitting of the team (again)

This is all on Tanny, why is it this team refused to trade up for starting OL talent or draft it period. Do they not study how teams like Pittsburgh and New England are built? I don't understand how you spend a top 5 pick on "your" franchise QB and not protect him with the best OL they can find? We gave these guys a mulligan last year but everybody knew unless the RT position was addressed the team was going to struggle and low and behold....

But we praised him as one of the very best short while ago. (Again, NOT ME, GOD DAMN IT!) He is not to blame.

    Or is he?

I'd normally agree with this BUT as a full time starter and someone who is making decent change for someone in his position, you have to think he'd try and get better and really examine what he did wrong last year and vow to not only himself but to his team to be better. You owe that much as a professional and as someone who is being put in a high pedestal and who carries a high amount of responsibility.

Everyone has a dud year here and there......but it becomes a sign of laziness and non-commitment when you fail to fix up your mistakes to an extent and hence why the bashing for Hunter is proper and understandable.

In Wayne Hunter's defense, he did just come back from injury and he was matched with JPP the whole game. Carolina should be a better test. If he's not clicking by then, moves will definitely be made.
