But then why on earth do you not cut then try to restructure for an incentive based contract? At least stipulating "you can't be one of the bottom five RT's in the league". I can see him as a back up, but gauranteed money? I don't know. I'm still confused by this whole thing.
We don't really have to wait and see on this do we? Nobody double-visioned Wayne Hunter into a starting RT over a 7 year career until the Jets somehow managed that feat last year. How is he suddenly going to become a player when he never was in the past and now he's on the wrong side of 30? Some things you don't have to wait and see on. The odds on Hunter turning into even a passable RT are really low.
I just can't make heads or tails out of this one. The one guy who seemed to be an absolute lock to lose his job? All I can do is hope that they know something about this guy that the rest of us don't.
he might be good backup center insurance, but not at that salary cap number. maybe they think turner will be able to start at rt. or, sparano can waive a magic wand to get ducasse ready.:drunk:
It hadn't even occurred to me but weren't Holmes and Hunter the two jawing at each other in the huddle when Santonio got thrown out of the huddle?
I wouldn't have minded seeing Holmes go since he's a cancer and all, but I understand the decision. This Hunter decision though, is just baffling and worrisome. I can't see them paying him that money to be a backup, and he just isn't good enough to start. WTF??
I really don't know what to tell you. All we can hope is that 2010 Wayne Hunter shows up at camp this year, not 2011.
There is an outside chance we will still use a high draft pick on an offensive tackle with the idea that Hunter can start until the rookie proves himself. I think that would be giving the front office too much credit.
we're going to have the same exact offense as last season! (with a downgrade from plax) OMG SOMEBODY HELP US
I agree that he should have been asked to restructure his contract. What makes no sense is how this guy went from playing well as a starter to a clueless tackle. Like others have said maybe with a new coordinator he will be better off I do think the off season will do him well same for Duccasse...
I was watching sound fx on nfl network, and there's a clip of Sanchez sitting on the bench and shotty and Brunell are standing in front of him laughing and Sanchez goes "why are u laughing I'm getting killed out there". Maybe the jets keeping hunter at starting right tackle is some kind of 3rd and 4th year hazing the jets put their QB through now.
Trying to put a positive spin, maybe, Sparano is going to a man blocking system instead of the zone. Hunter may be able to be able to get better ina new system. Not much, but I tried. Hunter....eck.
You're all overreacting. The Jets are surely to draft OL this year, this is purely a depth move, I'm sure.
