The only thing that makes sense to me now is what another poster said earlier about clearing mammoth cap space. If they go after Manning... I'll watch, but I won't be enjoying the disaster that follows.

This is preposterous. Seriously. How the fuck does this guy still have a job as bad as he played this past year. Is there really nothing better on the market than this glorified piece of turd? IF he gets 4 million next year I'm going down to NJ myself and ringing Tanny's neck.

    My exact reaction.

Put a garbage pale at RT and it does a better job. At least it wouldn't get a holding or false start penalty.

    Relax

They probably want to keep him as a backup, since he did well in a limited amount of games in 2010. I doubt he'll start again, but I think cutting him might not be so smart since the Jets lack depth at o-line.

at this point they have to have him take a pay-cut at least ... we should of cut his ass then resigned him to a lesser lesser deal

He has absolutely 0 incentive to take a paycut.

His salary is entirely guarenteed at this point, and theres a very decent chance he will get cut before his guarenteed money kicks in for the following season.

I dont know a single reason why he would willingly take less money

He'll be a backup. An expensive backup, but, as others have said, he'll provide much needed depth.

If he is going to be looked at all off-season/training camp as a starter for this O-Line, I'm going to flip a shit. A big shit. I'm talking THE bowel movements of bowel movements.

Honestly, what good did this do? I truly dont see one? This “NFL starting RT” is as good at his job as Hitler was at being a good person.

Maybe Tanny is working for every other team in the NFL and just wants to royally fuck us over...

Who knows. Maybe an offseason at starter and a some new coaching will help this guy.

    There is a chance.

Hunter may not start at RT this season, but there are two considerations in retaining him. First, he provides depth at RT as well as center and guard. Second, we can expect a different, less complex, blocking scheme supporting ground and pound. He is very athletic and could become more consistent.

The guy's going to be 31 before the season starts next year. He was terrible in his first season as a starter this year.

The odds on him being better than dogshit next year? Small.

I wonder if Woody is sick of paying for guys that Mr T signs and then having to cut them and still pay afterwords. Or maybe they are giving up on next season, and going to play out the string like the Mets.

Maybe this is the end of the Tanninbaum/Ryan run, and he is going to shit can everybody after next year. Disappointing, maybe Woody is going to get cheap and not care how we play as long as we buy tickets.

It's been a depressing last month to be a Jets fan. Ugh.

Management obviously thinks the new blocking scheme will suit him. We'll see.

Does this mean we look at O line in the draft during the first round? How else can this team afford to pay to improve the O line at this point....

Hunter will be fine. The guy looked great in 2010, with Schitforbrains gone and Sparano (who uses a simpler scheme) now in, I think Hunter becomes a solid player again. Losing that full offseason is rough for a guy going from a backup to a starter. That goes for Ducasse as well...hopefully.
