It starts at the top with good ownership. Sustained success that is.

Unfortunately the Jets picked a bad apple 23 years ago. Or is it 24?

    Yeah 24.

I remember people cracking fat jokes about Bill Parcells all the time. Belichick doesn't look like he ever lifted weights.

Bill Walsh had the look aura of a filfthy rich boss ceo. I remember Dick Vermeil well he didn't strike me as a nerd maybe a bit too emotional but not a nerd.

Anyway I read up a bit just a bit on Mike McDaniel apparently he did play football and was considered one of the strongest players on his team. So this is a case of don't judge a book by it's cover.

    So that's that.

I don't think I've ever thought of it this way. The Jets picked the wrong owner.

Packers: let’s draft a ton of offensive skill players and keep defenses guessing as to who we’re going to throw the ball to. We’ll worry about the defense later after we develop our young QB.

Jets: let’s get one skill player and one running back and TONS of defense. That’ll help the young QB way more.

    here is the article: https://theathletic.com/3139875/202...-was-the-walk-on-who-never-walked-away/?amp=1

He was considered “pound for pound” one of the strongest players on the team. But he was a 5’8 150 lb walk on that was not on the team for his physical abilities

either way, it’s an interesting story. McDaniel seems like a cool nerd I’ll admit

Imagine watching all this good football and being a jets fan.

    awful HC in Saleh
    Cursed franchise. Rogers injured.
    Awful OL

even if we make the playoffs, no way we win a game with this team and coach we have.

But even great coaches like Andy Reid make errors. Why in the world did Reid give the ball to ex-jet WR Hardman on a trick play near the goal line when they could have iced the game????
Pacheco was running over the bills all night and Hardman had already fumbled once earlier in the game. So Reid dials up Hardman's number when they had the ball on the five yard line???????
To nobody's surprise, Hardman fumbles the ball out of the end zone and gives the bills new life.
I didn't see Hardman back on the field the rest of the game and would not be surprised if he was inactive for Ravens game.

I only watched the last quarter of the Chiefs-Bills game - there's only so much "watching from the outside" I can take - but my take away from watching these two teams, teams the Jets would likely have to get past to go to the SB, is that I doubt any amount of reconstruction/upgrades to the OL will allow that to happen, especially when there's a 40+ year old QB - no matter how good he once was - behind the line. I kept trying to picture Rodgers taking the snaps and facing either of the Chiefs or Bills pass rush and saw only disaster.

This is the state of the OL that Douglas has built.

Forget all the excuses, and justifications. The reality is that the Jets OL is trash and has been for a decade and a half, and Douglas has done nothing to change that. Maybe I'm just wearing my Dark Sider Glasses, but I see no way he can improve the OL enough to allow a nearly immobile 40 year QB to succeed, even if that QB is a likely HOF'er. And forget all the other names being trotted out here as backups. None of them would be able to handle playoff caliber pass rushes like the Chiefs or Bills, let alone the Ravens. And anyone thinking that the Jets can draft some hot shot rookie QB who will become the next Mahomes, Allen, or Burrow, is delusional. And what top shelf veteran QB would even come here, even if he were available?

So where does that leave us?

In the worst possible spot. If they stick to their plan of starting Rodgers, if he stays healthy, a major IF, and plays most of the season, they might reach the playoffs, but then they run into the meat grinder defenses that will end their dreams. And worse, they'll "win" a lower draft pick which will further complicate their ability to find that next FQB. If Rodgers gets hurt again - very likely - and if the Jets have "upgraded" their backup QB spot, they'll probably contend for a wildcard at best, and again, "win" a lower draft pick. And after yet another lost season, Woody will fire Douglas & Co and try to find someone to do what no one has been able to do since Parcells: build a winning culture and team. Even if this time he succeeds in finding this person, it will take - at best - 2-3 years to see improvement. So we're looking at 3-4 years of more futility.

That's what I saw in watching the playoffs yesterday.

Unfortunately, I agree. The jets salary cap is in terrible condition, thx to Douglas giving out mega millions to Lazard, Tomlinson, Brown, Uzomah, JFM, etc. Even if the jets cut some of these guys, the dead cap hit for the next 1-3 years is heavy.
Douglas has IMO wasted 3 number 1 picks in Becton, Zach, and McDonald. We have no second round pick in 2024. AND, in a couple of years Sauce, Breece Hall, JJ, and Garrett Wilson will be expecting huge second contracts, and I'm not sure the jets will have the cap room w all of Douglas' stupid restructuring of guys like Carl Lawson and CJ Uzomah for example.
Douglas has shown he knows nothing about managing a cap or evaluating talent. I think the jets will be 7-10 again in 2024, maybe 8-9 at best (assuming Rodgers stays healthy), and Douglas and Saleh will thankfully be fired.
I doubt Rodgers comes back for 2025.

Many of these posts of doom and gloom with having Joe Douglas still as the GM just reinforce how important the draft is.

There's no substitute for poor drafting, it's been proven year after year.

I can't believe Joe Douglas and the Jets current scouting dept are going to be running this draft.

It will be SOO bad. I can guarantee you already that the Jets may hit on their first rounder (they better, even this is a big maybe) and will follow that up with a kaleidoscope of head scratching picks in rounds 2, 3 and 4.

Those are the rounds where you find a gem or two. Except if you're Douglas and the Jets "brain trust".

This is the current state of the franchise. There is NO light at the end of the Jets rainbow. Find another team people because next year and the years after that are probably going to be more of this perpetual merry go round of SHIT.

The Jets are soo far away from those teams on TV right now, light years.

I am afraid most are right, Jets outlook looks bleak. Defense looks solid even if we lose Huff. Terrible contracts, too many holes, and not a so and so proven record of draft picks.

I am enjoying the Ravens. Lamar makes the difference. But the team is Balance on both sides of the ball. And builds depth. They lose TE Andrew’s and Likely comes in and is dynamite player . They lose RBs, and still got effective RBs and now they added Cook who had a great game. Great LBs. But it all begins with the OL.

Where are the smart asses that threw Cook under the bus? Step on up and tell me, again, how "done" Cook is. Oh wait, you can't, because he left NY "Shit Storm" and went to a REAL NFL team with REAL coaching. THAT guy is all you need to look at to KNOW our fuck-ass group of coaching losers is exactly who we think they are. To a man, they are incompetent, in over the head and should have NEVER been hired let alone we have to sit around, with our thumbs up our asses, waiting for that jerk-wad asshole of an owner we have to FIRE them...next year, of course, because they are doing such an INCREDIBLE job!

I'd also love to hear from the fools that were laughing at me when I suggested this team go after Lamar Jackson instead of that ancient fucking fossil Rodgers and his broke-dick attitude. Considering how shitty our coaching is, which manifests itself annually in our utter lack of offense, we need a guy like Jackson back there to get AWAY from the pass rush.

The NY Jets goose is cooked for the next half a decade, at a minimum, and you can LITERALLY put that in stone, titanium or whatever. FUCK!!! I HATE knowing we are going to get our asses obliterated years before we actually get our asses obliterated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish there was a way to calm your anger. A sacrifice to the gods to heal you. But there is not.
Care less about this team and make fun of its nerdy, ugly owner and his ugly bitch wife.
The only way for this team to change is for the owner to sell.

Eh I mean Cook had 19 yards on 1 rush through a hole that you could’ve driven a bus through and then didn’t do much else. So I wouldn’t exactly say he’s back.

They did appear to try to use him much more strategically to his strengths though on outside sweeps.
