The defense really deserves a lot of credit. Steelers were up 3, Kellen threw the pick, Ellis had the great strip and recovery to give the O another chance. O could not complete the 4th down and the D stepped up again. In the previous weeks, a team like Pittsburgh would have simply ran the ball down out throats, scored a TD to go up 10 and it would have been over. The character they showed after the quick change (the int) won the game. Great, Great play. Also, watched closely ont the first 4th down call. The routes suck. Three wideouts, slot left. Right side BS runs a out a yard past the sticks, left side, Cotch run the out route out of the slot and I think MC ran a button hook. Nothing from the TE and nothing further than the 1st down. The offense needs to change.
I watched the replay, franktv, then back to replay and I enjoyed it. I like how they mix the press conferences and stats with the broadcast. I agree, the defense deserves alot of credit. That, along with Jones and Clemens. Not Brad Smith haha.
Im a litter woried about our recievers without Coles in there. Clemens is handling the offense pretty well , TJ can run the ball affectivly when given the right amount of carries but the recievers dont look to impressive without coles , Brad Smith drops way to many passes but then again he is a converted reciever and cotch is getting blanketed from the oppenents best corner and i dunno if we can do it turkey day without him. We'll see what happens , hopefully cotch and smith come thru big despite coles being out.
Good point. That's something that hasn't come to attention here just yet, but it will soon enough. I don't know how Smith is going to do as a WR if he can't catch. Coles did seem to be a spark on the offense, and it's clear that Cotchery plays much better when he's there, especially because he's free. Mabey we have to start looking for a WR, hopefully an early pick in the draft after this one.
I also watched the NFL replay myself last night. I try and focus on players that I didnt get to focus on during the game (Because I always pay attention to the ball during the game). Let me just say one thing. Did we ever find a playmaker in D.Harris or what? This kid is freaking Amazing with a capital A! With the way he's been playing, it looks like this may be the player to build our Defense around. Also D.Revis is going to be a great Cornerback for years to come, Boy can this kid cover and tackle. Our secondary is actually coming along nice with Revis and Rhodes. Ferguson is playing and looks like he is becoming the franchise LT that Mangini drafted him to be at #4. And Mangold is looking like a future ProBowler for years to come and as we all know... L.Washington is a playmaker with the ball in the open field. Mangini needs to start finding ways to get this kid the ball on Offense in the flats.
Yea, I think the game vs Wash and Pitt showed that Cotch is not a #1 receiver and it was not that Chad just had good chemistry with Coles. Coles is the guy that opens things up for Cotch.
I think Smith will be fine at WR. Expect him to get more than an earfull about the drop in the endzone. We need to get Leon more involved as a running back and receiver. He is our biggest offensive threat and not used enough this year at all.
i think clemens and cotch need to work on their chemistry together also. that'll come in time, it just sucks that its such a short week of practice.
Cotchery did have an off game vs the Steelers, but thats expected because that Defense is the #1 D as of right now. But one player than stood out was J-Mac, and thats huge because J.Mac can be a really good player if he can only catch the damn ball... He's big, fast, quick, and can stretch the field and make the big play. Kellen needs to gain trust in J.Mac after that Baltimore game, and Justin needs to play with a chip on his shoulder and come through for Kellen with the remaining games left.
I just watched the torrent of the game, as well. A couple of observations: Harris is a beast Ellis had a great game DRob too. Clemens played very well. 3 bad passes, that's it. The int, where Cotch did not spot the ball coming in. An almost pick on a short right buttonhook to Brad Smith. And the overthrow over McCariens head. That's it. Every other ball was catchable, even though the recievers were mostly blanketed. Brad Smith is not a reciever. He catches everything with his body, not his hands. Washington is our playmaker!
I don't think Ferguson had a great game, it was pretty good but he got beat a lot, that one 3rd and 2 in the fourth when TJ got stood up that was Ferguson's guy. Also, a couple sacks were guys that got around Ferguson on a speed rush...for a pass rushing specialist, that shouldn't happen. Clemens looked alright, he definitely showed his inexperience... Washington has to be given screens, and more carries. I agree, Smith looks like a non-receiver. He has, so far, J-Mac syndrome.
Ferguson was actually one of the few people who did not have a good game at all. He got spun like a turnstile on at least one sack.
I saw that, but he was facing an elite pass rusher in Harrison. Harriosn is short for an 3-4 OLB (6'0 I belive) ...but is the strongest player on the team. He is an absolute beast in that defense and got past brick a couple of times. A casee of a good young LT getting upstaged by a very good young OLB. Edit: James Harrison Height: 6-0 Weight: 242 Born: May 4, 1978 - Akron, OH College: Kent State Draft: None 67 tackles and 7.5 sacks get used to hearing his name as a pro blower. Everytime I watch him he's scary good.
Am I the only one that would like to see Leon Washington get some reps at WR and Brad Smith get some reps at RB (especially if we can work in the option pass)?
I want to see Washington get some real reps at runningback at this point. Jones is doing well for 15 carries and then trailing off at the end, as is his career pattern. I'd like to see washington get a dozen or more carries a game to space out Jones effective carries more evenly. Maybe there's a reason the Jets running game has been poor in the 4th quarter?
I have lived in Florida mostly my whole life and I'm actually a big FSU fan because they always get players who are simply exciting to watch. When the Jets drafted Leon in the 4th round, I almost pissed myself because for the first time in a long time I actually KNEW that this Jets team just drafted an explosive Playmaker for this Offense. I remember watching W.Dunn play, he was amazing in the open field and I also remember when the Bucs drafted W.Dunn... I was pretty pissed because I just hate the Bucs with a passion. But to make a long story short, Leon Washington is the better full time back in terms of carrying the work load, he can do it all... He can KR, PR, Catch in the flats, catch the screen, Run the Toss, Counter, Sweep, Draw... He's just an amazing back in my eyes and we have all seen that he can turn a 5 yard gain into a 60+ yarder on any given play, and thats what makes him special like a Reggie Bush, M.Jones-Drew and even B.Westbrook whos been doing it for years now. With all that said... It's only his 2nd season. Yea I would love for Mangini and Martys boy to get this kid more involved in the Jets attack but at the same time he's still only a 2nd year player. Players with the skill of Leon usually have breakout seasons during thier 3rd year of play. Next year I expect this kid to have a bigger impact than T.Jones in the backfield and if we can some how... Some way... Improve our Offensive line, look for T.Jones to ware down the opposing Defenses next season while Leon hits the home run ball all year long during the 2nd half of games. His future is bright, I'm just really glad that he is getting a chance to shine on Special teams this year... And he's actually making the best of it.
Washington had 600+ yards rushing last year. It's a shame that he hasn't been given more of an opportunity this year. I guess the argument for limiting his workload is to not take tread off his tires in a lost cause. That's not a bad plan.
