I think your seriously underestimating how well respected Rex is in league circles. Detroit or Dallas would LOVE Rex, those are both teams that need a leader of men and a top defense and Rex brings both of those.
Also Calahan is in Dal and I'm pretty sure he's been the one calling offensive plays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No way he was going to say no. Always felt that Rex has an undying love for this team. Which is why I'm happy he is still around.
One of the things I'm not seeing here is Rex knew he was being retained before the game...if you believe the media. Having said that, Rex Ryan is LOVED in most league circles. You have to remember...he's the kind of guy that says what everyone else WISHES they could say but are afraid to. You are all full of shit if you don't think that Belichik would LOVE to tell everyone he was going to pound the division every year...especially the Jets. He's simply too coward to say it. On that note, you can bet your ass if the Jets fired Ryan he would have his PICK of at least Tampa and Detroit. Those defenses are STACKED and he wouldn't NEED much of an offense because NO ONE would score on them. The Vikings are going all offense...they have no use for Ryan as he's already proven that he can't pick a QB and that is the singular issue up in Minnesota. I honestly think Ryan would be on a short list in Washington too. Hopefully RGIII isn't destroyed. Nope, I am stoked he's coming back and I agree with posters here that he should get no more than a 2 year extension to prove once and for all that, with MM, he can get over that hump and back into the playoffs. Now that they've agreed to bring him back my whole focus is on Idzik now. He's a full year here...let's see what he does with some cap space and a crap load of picks in this year's draft. Time to rebuild the offense!
U bookmark this page & if he wins the SB in those 5 years I will be the 1st to admit I was wrong on him buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut after 5 years if I am right then I want U to say so on this board. OK?
Wow Rale, its been all over the media that Idzik wants some changes on Rex's staff. Man, I'm not making this up..Its out there. Now you could make the case that its the media stirring up shit but somehow, I don't think it is because the story seems to be sticking. Just a really really strange way to conduct business..
You have got to be kidding me hmy: - what team were you watching? You're insane and completely out of focus,. Rex just took a team with an unproven rookie QB and a bunch of noname recievers and got them to 8 & 8 when everyone of the so called 'experts predicted a poor season, at best. You think the Browns, to name just one team, wouldn't be salivating bringing Rex in if he didn't get his extension?
Two weeks ago nobody thought Rex was gonna even keep his job, now he is wanted by every team that needs a new HC. They win a couple of games and now he's a hot property? Who's insane and out of focus? As I said already, if we were talking about DC positions, I'm sure there'd be a line at his door.
And what if in 5 years we make the playoffs 4 out of 5 years with strong showings, a SB appearance and average 10-12 wins per year? Do you still get to come back and gloat? Do people really think anything other than lousy QB play has been the Jets problem these last 3 years? I mean honestly what coach was coaching the leagues worst QB and no talent offense to a better than 8-8 record this year?
I think Rex situation is a perfect example of the media reaching and just proving allot of the times there just dead wrong. The lack of credible reporting In sports is bad in ny is off the wall. The national media does just as bad of a job with ny teams. Yes 2 weeks ago there was article after article, discussion on how "Rex was done" getting another head coaching jjob would probably be out of the question. He just a glorified dc etc.. Look at today's stories... Rex deserved to come back, look what he did with not allot of talent, one report even mentioned he should be up for coach of the year. Point is most media report are beyond usless. These guys break stories with unnamed sources, then the rest follow suit. Then when proven wrong. They just do a full 180.. Rex situation is a great example of that. I can really understand why there so much hostility between players/coaches and the media. Its become tmz. For the most part it's all guesses with reporters, bloggers trying to break stories and further there own agenda. 90 percent of the media reports are as good as useless.
Just have a feeling he will be here for a few more years, BUT this off season has HAS to be HUGE, Better then last years and that is up to the GM now.
He's one of the top HCs in the game, he would have been out of work for 5 minutes. Unlike your HC his career wasn't saved by the best QB of this generation, if not for Brady BB would be a DC somewhere today. and teams were already lining up, the rumblings were Washington was going to go hard after him, this was before Detroit blew their chances and no one thought their HC would be fired but I guarantee you they would have made a run as would Houston. Just b/c the Jets were rumored to do something foolish doesn't mean those around the league would have avoided him. it's not like 2001 where BB was coaching for his last job and had Brady not emerged BB would have lost his HC chances.
He is not like his dad. Rex is boisterous and confident but not cocky. He praises the opponents week in and week out. Buddy was a lot more cocky and a LOT less PC. If the Jets give him 5 more years, I'd take you up on that offer. Just remember that Cowher was the HC of Pitt for 13 years before winning an SB. If Jerry Jones can admit letting Rob Ryan go as his DC was a mistake, he would be sure to grab Rex to run the whole show, 60 seconds after the Jets cut him loose. Any team with a mid-grade QB would take Rex in a heartbeat. Tampa would be a playoff contender immediately and Dallas would definitely make the PO's. As others have said, Washington would also be an immediate contender. As Chris put near perfectly, outside of a couple reporters, most of the media are a bunch of whiney babies trying to break non-news on a regular basis. Don't let the news articles skew your opinion as most of the writers are wrong. There were only a few reporters before the season started that thought Rex should be extended after this year - regardless - because of continuity. They are right.
That first statement is not based in facts or results, just your opinion. Also, what happened with BB has no relevance in rating Rex's job performance. We're not discussing BB. I know you have a hard time not bringing your Brady/BB opinion into every discussion, but it has nothing to do with Rex. As far as this other statement, I'd love to have a couple links to these "rumblings" of ANY team going hard after Rex. I know I never read anything of the sort.
I guess I have to agree with you to the extent that at least Rex is likeable. Buddy was an A-Hole. I don't think Jerry made a mistake firing Rob. Their defense sucked last year. The fact that it was even worse this year only means he replaced him with someone worse. Rob has done some decent stuff with the Saints, but their D is nothing to get excited about really. Most decent offenses have done ok against them.
