Sanchez went to 2 AFC Championships, what did Geno do? Plus Sanchez looked better in preseason than Geno. I dont know where you guys are coming up with this high ceiling for Geno.

And Greene was a top 14 RB last season. He's average but he had good moments. Ivory has looked terrible in the preseason and who knows if he's injury prone.

    I already established Geno was a '?'.

Sanchez was expected to look better than Geno, he's a 5th year starter.

Geno has a higher ceiling because he's more physically gifted and Sanchez hasn't set the ceiling very high. Yes, he's made those playoff runs and played well, but those runs are overshadowed by his below average play since. I find it hard to believe that his play in the playoffs from 2009 and 2010 will be the norm. Either way it's irrelevant because Sanchez is injured and Geno is starting.

And yea Greene was 14th in yards, but everyone ahead of him on that list had more yards per carry. The guy was not elusive at all. Ivory has a higher ceiling because he has shown elusiveness and has generated higher YPC, albeit on a smaller sample size. Ivory might not be as good as Greene, that's very possible. But he has a higher ceiling.

PO, have you already forgotten that last year preseason we were near last in every offensive stat and this year we're in the top five in most offensive stats. Blah blah blah, it's only preseason, I know I know, but anyone who doesn't think our O will be better this year than any time since Rex got here is just a doom and gloomer.

This had me almost spit my coffee on the screen!

We are better...there really is no other way to say it. THAT is why I laugh heartily at what all the media are saying.

Unless some are right and we have completely shit the bed on the Geno Smith pick, that position should progress through the season. Sanchez still makes rookie mistakes and Geno IS a rookie...so the ceiling should be higher.

RB is, at worst, even. Powell is running better than last year and that in itself is a plus. Ivory will hopefully get up to speed.

The defense as a whole unit is better. The LB'ers will improve simply off of improved line play...it is a trickle down effect.

The WR's as a group are VASTLY improved imho. IF the QB can get them the ball and IF Holmes is all the way back and actually plays like he's hunting for a new contract we should be greatly improved there. Hill has another year under his belt and looks to be progressing. Kerley...the same. I also like the young guys that were added. Time will tell though. :)

I guess I should have answered the question though...oh yeah...there have been a few other times!!

Trust me...we are light years ahead of a few other spots in history where I was worried if we could beat an elite college team!

To answer the question posed by the OP, every season I enter the season with a lot of questions. This year is no different.

99% of the time i have dozens of concerns going into game #1.....i think the only times i did not was back in 1983 and 1999....

in 83 the jets beat the chargers on opening day and it was downhill from there.....

in 99 we all know what happened in early 2nd quarter.

both seasons coming off of the AFC title game loss.

QB: Chad was coming off of TWO shoulder surgeries past 2 years
RB: we acquired Kevan barlow during preseason
WRs: Cotch had nevre started and Coles was banged up
LBs/tackling: Vilma wasn't a fit for the new system, Victor Hobson was starting.

    Guess what happened in 2006?

We lost every preseason game last year. ESPN states that 16% of teams that lose all 4 preseason games ever made it to the playoff's. We won almost all of them this preseason. Good percentage we have a better season than last.

yep. I was thinking 2006 in regards to the original question....... a little different then as it was like a whole new slate was wiped clean. New coach, GM, Lots of draft picks..... ZERO expectations, but similar overall.

although I sat through that beatdown in JAX :shit:

Top 14? You mean he was ranked 14th in total yards? That's true but his YPC was 3.9, ranked 31st in the league, which is far more important. He wasn't very efficient, but how much of that was the fault of the oline is yet to be determined. Part of the reason the yardage was semi respectable was due to ending the year with run heavy game plans.
