I still don't understand why you're posting on this board? You have a great team to talk about, one that you likely will never see the likes of again. Why do you bother to incessantly troll on another team's boards while that is going on? Pull the wings off of flies much?
Good post but I think 4-12 is a bit extreme on the low side. Our Defense is too good to only win 4 games unless our offense is a complete atrocity.
Good Post the Jets have rarely been very bad but they have rarely been very good. Lets not forget one thing the front offices that look like geniuses have one thing in common they were able to draft, trade, develop a quality QB. When Vinny played well the Jets were good when Chad played well the Jets were good. We all know what happened with Chad and that sent this franchise back. The Jets future relies on one position and that is QB play. If Sanchez turns the corner this year the Jets will be a Superbowl contenders for the next ten years if not back to finding a Qb and until we find one the pattern will continue.
Most likely. Until he is benched for poor performance. Then it's McElroy. Of course that assumes Sanchez is benched in the first place. I don't want to lay odds. Let's see what tea leaves we can read coming out of camp and the pre-season games, if Sparano can show anything, the kind of impact Hill makes, if Hunter can upgrade, those sorts of things. Even without upgrades elsewhere on the O, if Sanchez can avoid turnovers, he will likely keep his job even if the Jets are not winning much more than losing. That will keep Tebow in a more limited role. If in fact Sanchez is benched, though, I have next to no expectation that Tebow would prove to be any better, and instead will be shown to be worse. Depending on the time line, how long all that took to play out, it is possible McElroy sees the field.
The pattern you refer to here, which I think any fair minded person would have to recognize is reasonably accurate, raises the question where such a pattern comes from, and why it exists. I think the answer has to go back to Woody. This is the kind of approach Woody signs off on, is comfortable with. Here and there it fits with his high publicity moves designed to market seats, PSL's. Stay in the media. And of course Bradway and then Tanny implemented this approach.
I agree. It would take key injuries on D to have the D go down to that level, either that or we are talking a total meltdown on O that will have the Schotty Haters crying for his return. Heh.
The 2004 Jets defense was ranked in the top 5. The 2005 Jets went 4-12. A good defense is not what prevents collapses. On the Jets collapses always come around the offensive inadequacies. I think in the NFL at large when you look at teams you will see the same phenomenon recently. Team collapses are more likely to occur due to an offensive failure than to a defensive one.
Parcels Year 1- 9-7 Year 2- 12-4 Year 3- 8-8 Year 4 (Groh)- 9-7 Herm Year 1 - 10-6 Year 2- 9-7 Year 3- 6-10 Year 4- 10-6 Year 5- 4-12 Mangini year 1 10-6 year 2 4-12 year 3 9-7 Ryan Year 1 9-7 Year 2 11-5 Year 3 8-8 Year 4 Looking at this every fourth Year the Jets go 10-6 or 9-7 no matter who the coach is I dont think that will change.
Colts as of late is the best example you can find. With Manning, that atrocious defense still held; once Manning went down, so did the entire team.
LOL. How are the Jets being run the same way this year as those "disaster years" when they have a brand new OC? Come on. You are seriously saying the Jets haven't addressed ANY weakness this year? Tebow wasn't a big splash, we gave up a 4th rounder for him. Schillens, Bell, Landry, Coples and Hill were much more significant and much bigger "splashes", (although Hill & Coples weren't FAs obviously). People just view Tebow in the limelight and wrongfully assess that it was a big splash. That's not true at all, he's a backup QB that can run the option pretty well. Basically a replacement for Brad Smith that can throw the ball if need be. People keep looking at our team the wrong way. We have reformed the offense this year and beefed up the D line. I don't understand why people are referencing prior years as if they have ANYTHING whatsoever to do with this year. Tanny is a salary cap genius. If he didn't restructure Sanchez and (Scott?) we wouldn't have been able to sign Pouha, Bell, or Landry. Let's be realistic here. The coaching staff is a far bigger factor than Tanny/Woody. We have players that can win. We just need the offense to gel better together. Sparano is the man for that.
I understand why people didn't like the Tebow move but he doesn't just run the option pretty well. I'd argue there is no one in the entire NFL that is more fit to run the option than Tebow.
As long as Rex is in charge the Jets will have a solid defense. The real issue, as you stated, will be if the Offense can get out of it's own way. And that comes down to this: It's imperative that any team with a young QB establishes a good run game, and the Jets are no different. Every team we play will be geared up to stop the Jet's run game, then let Sanchez beat himself. So the question becomes will the Jet passing game be 'good enough' to defeat a stacked box? Will Mark/Tone/Keller/Hill be 'good enough' to prevent teams from playing extra linemen and linebackers? If Mark can keep the other team honest, then Greene will have a good year, and we'll be back in the AFCC game.
Heh. Even a darksider has to concede that 2005 was a collapse due to poor roster choices on O combined with a worst case scenario. The poor choice was going in with a fragile Chad as the starter, and then deciding his backup should be Fiedler, who in fact had missed more games than Chad, and then Bollinger as #3 received essentially no preparation, snaps whatever, and was thrown to the lions when both Chad and Fiedler went down in one game. I would also add the RB's were perhaps in more disarray that year than in recent memory. Barlow? It was a perfect storm for the O.
The Broncos averaged the fewest passing attempts per game last year at 26. I know Sparano is known as a run first guy, but I'm sure he's aware of the forward pass.
alright i was completely wrong about the reed blitz, but there is still a lot of problems with that plays design. great job disguising the blitz by reed, and tone looks covered on a quick pass, so mark looks right, and before he can dump off to his open rb, reed strips the ball. bad play made worse by good defense. mark also played it wrong, but if he had more time it could have been a completion. i know we moved on i just havent posted in this thread since then haha, feel free to disregard
Topic has drifted, but I wanted to say how could Sanchez not have been injured last year? The guy got the piss knocked out of him several times. Some of those hits were unfair to ask a QB to take. The Ravens game was brutal to watch and an embarrassment to Rex, I'm sure, let alone to the rest of us. Pray for improvement in '12.
Terrible logic, looking for patterns between completely different teams, but I hope you are right. 10-6 seems about right to me but anything can happen come September.
