http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10867829 NEW YORK -- Yankees ace Chien-Ming Wang is expected to be sidelined until at least September after injuring his foot running the bases, prompting club co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner to chastise the National League for playing without a designated hitter. An examination in New York on Monday showed Wang partially tore a tendon and sprained his right foot Sunday during the Yankees' 13-0 interleague win at Houston. He will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for a minimum of six weeks, the latest blow to the team's banged-up pitching staff. "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century," Steinbrenner said in Tampa, Fla. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century. "Am I (mad) about it? Yes," Steinbrenner added. "I've got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He's going to be out. I don't like that, and it's about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s."  I think the real issue is you have a pitcher that apparently can't run.
I'm listening to Braves-Rockies, and a Rockies broadcaster started talking about it, and he kept calling him "Wang" with a hard A. Awesome.
Interleague play is dumb. Do you think Wang takes BP ever? Or practices running the bases? He has no idea what he's doing out there and this happens. Man this sucks.
I could probably guarantee you that he did something like it before he came to the majors since most pitchers were hitters before they decided to specialize in just pitching.
Okay...So for about the last 6 years he hasn't taken BP or run the bases...This isn't like Owings or Ankiel who were good hitters in college/HS...
He probably has to do at least a little training with running, even just pitching he will run into situations where he has to run.
Their is a difference between just running...And making turns around bases where he looks like a 5 year old since he never has to do it.
Stop making running while turning into something complicated because it is a bit silly. This was just a fluke accident that could have happened at anytime while he is pitching.
Yes very much so an coincidence, otherwise Wang isn't fit to play in the majors if he can't run around the bases without getting hurt.
just like david ortiz wouldnt be fit to play in the MLB if there was no DH rule. but he plays in the AL, so he shouldnt have to worry about it.
He wouldn't be able to last in the majors if he can't run at all, it isn't like he hurt himself sliding to home plate or swing the bat wrong it was simply running. It has little to do with the interleague game.
